This is an Odd thing to mention but if someone mentions something and you get really uptight about it can it give you a tight anxious feeling in the chest? Only reason I ask is because I was meant to be going away in October and I don’t know how I’m going to be, so every time it’s mentioned in general conversation I get a tight kind of feeling across my chest and feel uneasy, does this make sense to anyone?

A strange question
Absolutely. Chest tightness is a frequent companion for people with anxiety.
I am supposed to be going on my brothers stag in August and I know I can’t make it due to my anxiety.
Every time someone mentions it my chest goes tight and I get hot flushes.
Ok thank you, I hate it, it stays there for quite a while after
It’s not good, and still non sufferers haven’t a clue. Even if you explain it goes over their heads. My mates say “don’t be stupid you can come, nothing will happen?!”
I completely understand because no one in my family does. 2 of my grown childen quit having contact with me because he and his wife think I am crazy and making it all up. They have even turned my only granddaughter (16) for the last 6+ years. My husband of 24 years left me because of it. My husband is 100% respondible for allowing me to be destroyed by Mold in our home. The Mold is what pushed me to the limit. I was so weak and could get out of bed without help. I told him over and over that there was mold killing in our home of 21 years after a 1000 flood hit plus 4 hurricanes, but you see he ignored me and refuse to talk to me. He then started with the Emotional Abuse (Narrcissism). I have been suffering from Adrenal Fatigue for 4+years due to constant stress. The Adrenal Fatigue/Exhaustion and your Pituitary no longer sents cortisol to the adrenal glands so the body can deal with stress. I t took me 11 years to find a specialist in the endocine system! I went to 12 diff. ones who would not listen and just wanted to give a pills for depression but I knew a 100% it was something to do with the thyroid. Finally, I went to my allergist and she listened to me and ordered many, many test. She saved my life. She explained that so many women and some men are walking around with thyroid imbalances. My thyroid doctor told me that at least 80% have issues but do not have a clue. Our medical doctors in the USA are failing women and some men. I have read so many books and current magazines on this thyroid issues. This is why these where the Anxiety Disorders start due to thyroid imbalances/manic (chemical imbalances). The World we live in today is nothing but Stressful. Sorry for this reply being so long but I feel it is my duty to let people know.
Hi
I understand what you are saying. It seems as if most people find it impossible to understand however much it is explained to them. I didn't really understand before I became ill but I think I would have done if anyone had told me about it in depth. In particular no one seems to understand how ill it makes you feel and all the horrendous physical as well as psychological symptoms that are involved.
My partner does not get it at all but my adult daughter had been amazing and rang me every day to see how I was during her lunch hour when I was first really ill with GAD.
I think you are doing the right thing to tell your friends and try to explain how you feel even though they do not appear to get it. In the long run we need to try to educate others about it.
It may sink in at some point and may be of help if one of them becomes ill with anxiety or depression. It is much braver to tell people than keep it to yourself which continues the conspiracy of silence about it and stops others from understanding or being sympathetic.
I really hope you feel better soon.
Best wishes.
Kim
Yeah I get it alot, along with trouble breathing or even suffocation. I avoid eating till it stops because when I eat I feel like my chest will close up.
It’s a common symptom of anxiety
Ohhhhh yes.
Hi Sam
Sorry to read you have been having a bad day except for the time in your neighbours garden.
Yes tight chest and breathlessness has been my last remaining symptom. Seems to be going now however.
Like you said you were doing really well. I tended to find you get some good days then quite a few bad days. Then more good days until eventually most days are good. Hang on in there, it will improve.
Really hope you sleep better tonight and then feel better in the morning.
Kim
I definitely do! Emotions are powerful. No matter how small the issue is.
