Depersonalization : So I’m having a hard... - Anxiety Support
Depersonalization
Depersonalization is this feeling of unreality, a sort of brain fog, a disturbing feeling like you're dreaming when you know you are awake. As troubling and scary as this feeling might be, it is in fact nothing more than just another of many possible symptoms of anxiety. It's important to keep reminding yourself of this.
There is an entire chapter on this in Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes (highly recommended).
I suffered this in 1999 right before i got married came out of no where i jumped out of a moiving car everthing became fake i was rushed to the hospital drs kept saying what drug did i take i never sis drugs eventually they told me i suffered depersonalization it comes and goes but since i know what it is im ok dosent control my life hur it use 2
Im going to need a little more info for this one. Depersonalization can occur with extreme anxiety and panic disorders but is more commonly known in Dissociative disorders like multiple personality disorder which is now known more as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Before we go further can you explain it a little more
Hi anon99,
you don't need to worry if you have it or not, it's just a common component of anxiety/panic. Why it is classified under dissociative conditions is beyond me- but then again the DSM is full of things that I believe are a little off
Check out Dr. Weekes' work- I have some of her stuff on my profile. She calls this "feelings of unreality". There are some other things on my profile that might interest you. All of these anxiety recovery resources touch upon depersonalization/derealization to some degree.
Just let these feelings be. There's no need to fear them. they are common sensations with a sensitized nervous system. Wishing you all the best~
