I fell really hard and hit my tooth. I hurt the nerve in my front tooth and now need a root canal. Not only am I having anxiety attacks but I'm causing myself to panic because of what the procedure consists of, removing the root and being so close to blood vessels etc. I'm not so much worried about the pain. I am just so freaked out about the whole situation.

Has anyone ever had a root canal?
7 of them.YES SEVEN. I only have 2 molars left without root canal/crown.
All went fine! The only pain I experienced was the bill afterward The procedure is tiring (you have to keep your mouth open for awhile) but the dentist/endodontist will give you lots of novocaine and you shouldn't feel any pain whatsoever. If you have any twinges of pain, stop your doc and ask for more novocaine. You should only feel pressure (not painful! it's just a pushing sensation...) while they clean the roots. The procedure is extremely safe. Once completed you will have a pain-free tooth. I had one that was particularly tiring where I took the day off but I usually go back to work after my root canals. Numb but fine.
If you're getting a permanent crown done afterwards, that is a piece of cake.
I recommend a headset with music if allowed during the procedure- helps distract/pass the time. Good luck!
I have had several and they were all painless and the teeth felt much better afterwords.
