Anxiety and School

Hi my name is Grayson and i’m 16 years old. I live in Austin Texas and attend public school. I can’t do germs like when people touch me it feels like there hand is still there and it’s just dragging me down. I also have a low tolerance for noise. it just freaks me out like i can’t focus because i’m worried about everything and sound i hear. I was wondering if there was maybe something i can do to help with this. I’ve heard journaling when i start to have an “episode” will help, but i haven’t tried it. Any ideas??

Hi Grayson,

When I get anxious I do deep breathing, journaling and meditation. These techniques help me. Also positive self talk helps a lot. I keep repeating stuff in my head like, "I got this. I got this."

Hi Grayson,

Have you talked to anyone about it- parents, friend, guidance counselor? If you can talk to someone who is supportive and could understand that would be a good first step. And/or, a therapist can help tremendously with what you describe. Also- have a look around the site, there are tons of suggestions from the folks on this board. Lastly, check out the resources I have listed on my profile. These are very tried and true and you will hear Dr. Claire Weekes mentioned often on this site (her resources are listed on my profile). I'm in the middle of listening to "The Anxiety Guy" podcasts recommended by some others here. So far, I really like his stuff too.

I do Journaling, I do it at the end of the day. I Write down how I felt that day what I ate. It helps me a lot. You can also try breathing exercises. If you don't know the right technique you can go on YouTube, they have tons of videos that can show you how to do it. If you haven't spoken to a doctor about this I suggest you do, you can ask your parents to take you let them know what's happening if you haven't already. Don't hold back on how you feel, you'd be surprised the amount of support you will get.

I’m in high school too and I feel the same way about noise. Like during an exam, when I start reading a question and someone drops their pen, I have to start over again. I always have difficulty managing time. Do you zone out during key moments or when someone’s taking to you too?

Not what you're looking for?
