I finally know why I have anxiety

So I finally figured out on my own as to why I have anxiety....although it hasn’t really help of how anxious I feel all the time at least I know there’s a reason for the anxiety. Anyway about a year and a half ago I took some anti-malarial medicine because of blood realated illness from a tick, as it turns out they were not effective for that illness but was the source of my anxiety. I just looked up about if the meds caused anxiety recently and found that many people reported anxiety from taking the medication. So it’s a relief to finally know that but now I have to work on getting my mind to stop being anxious all the time

But did you get anxiety because of the anti-tick medicine or because you were anxious about being bitten by a tick?

Anxiety disorder is caused by over-sensitisation of the nervous system after a long period of worry, over work, disappointment, stress, toxic relationships.

Biologically I don't see how any medication can cause over-sensitisation of the nervous system. Other than the causes described only hypothyroidism can cause high anxiety.

I’m fairly positive it was from that as I was sick for several months for I actually took the meds and never felt anxious before I took them..... I did get two allergic reactions to the meds so maybe that caused the anxiety.... I didn’t get full blown a anxiety until about a month after I stopped the meds

Jeff , lights and whistles went off when I read your thoughts regarding cause of high anxiety . My life period has been filled with non stop “worry , overwork , disappointment , stress , toxic relationships and hypothyroid diagnosis “ Could you give me any further info regarding the healing process ? Ive spent the last 9 months in deep depression and anxiety and was given RX for Lexipro 2 days ago . BUT , I’m very hesitant to take it after reading so many negative side affects . Just what someone with high anxiety needs to read !

Do you have any suggestions for sites , authors , research etc. that would help guide me in my self help ? Thank you . 🌞🌞

Nocando, I am an advocate of the acceptance method for recovery from anxiety disorder in all its forms first set out more than 50 years ago by the late Doctor Claire Weekes in her ground breaking first book 'Self help for your nerves' (U.K. title) also published as 'Hope and help for your nerves' (U.S. title). Both available from Amazon either new or used.

Weekes' method has brought relief and recovery to untold thousands and has sold over one-third of a million copies.

Her method is based on the fact that the symptoms of anxiety disorder are the result of our nervous systems becoming oversensitised by a long period of worry, overwork, stress, disappointment, toxic relationships etc. In this over sensitive state our nerves start to play tricks on us by imitating the symptoms of physical illnesses and also exaggerating tenfold in our minds small problems and worries we normally wouldn't bother about or can easily solve.

We end up in a state of bewilderment and fear and begin to release fear hormones which keep our nerves further sensitised. So the fear produces more symptoms which produce more fear which produces more symptoms in a never ending chain reaction.

Weekes' method is designed to break this vicious circle allowing sensitised nerves to recover. It also overcomes the depletion of nervous energy that can lead to depression.

First you have to stop fighting your anxiety. You've been fighting it for months, has fighting done you any good? Fighting causes stress and tension, the last thing your netvous system needs is more of that.

Instead, we learn to accept all the symptoms of anxiety for the time being. We surrender to them, agree to co-exist with them for the moment. We do this calmly and with the minimum of fear because we know that all those symptoms and strange feelings are fake - they are not real illnesses and hold no danger to us. They only exist in our imagination and therefore cannot kill us, disable us or send us crazy. What have we to fear from things that only exist in a thought and symptoms that are fake?

Gradually acceptance replaces fear, fear and the fear of fear are the causes of anxiety in all its form. Thus our nervous system loses its over sensitivity and returns to normal and in the fullness of time we recover.

This is no instant fix, it takes time for acceptance to work, nothing worthwhile is easily won.

Even if our anxiety is inherited and inclined to return we know how to see it off as we have done so before.

When you read Claire Weekes' first book you soon recognise yourself in its pages, you feel she knows you and is talking to you personally. The combined reader reviews on Amazon.co.uk and amazon.com for all her books in the past few years alone number 1,600 - and 90% rate her method Very Good or Excellent.

You can also find her expounding her ideas on YouTube if you search for Clsire Weekes. But its still important to read the book - it's short, easy to read and devoid of technical terms.

Nocando, I commend this book to you.
