Palpitations are lasting me hours...

I mainly notice that I have palpitations in the evening, when I'm lying in bed and am more aware of my body. These can last anywhere from 10 minutes, to a couple of hours before I fall asleep. I also get them in the day time, or after I exercise. It's really worrying because I can feel (through my pulse in my neck) that my heart is skipping every fourth beat, and occasionally adds an extra beat to make up for it. Ectopic beats I believe they're called. As it makes me more anxious, they only get worse. I don't know whether this is a problem to take to A&E or whether I try to ignore it? I am also short of breath, and subsequently breathing fairly fast. Again - I am unsure whether this is related to the anxiety, or whether it's a physical defect with my heart.

I literally just jolted out of bed because my heart rate/palpitations were so fast and bad and scary. I'm not sure about you going to A&E as I have no knowledge whatsoever to determine why you have palpitations or why I have them as well😭 just on the same boat as you. If you feel as though there's something wrong get checked out. Anxiety is something else

It's so horrible, and mentally draining! I'm absolutely shattered, but I'm too worried about falling asleep in case something terrible happens to me. I hope that they ease for you, apparently, exercise is meant to help them...But I don't fancy a walk in this freezing weather!

I feel you, I have a huge exam tomorrow but it’s 3 am and I’ve been laying in the dark since 9 pm trying so hard to sleep. Every time I start to fall asleep I jolt up with the feeling of an adrenaline rush. I’ve had 3 panic attacks in the past 2 hours, it really sucks.

I hope you manage to get some rest! As horrible as they are, maybe the panic attacks will wear you out a bit? I've been experiencing the exact same thing, so you're not alone. Just keep at it - and I'm sure you'll get there.

I’m so exhausted. I just had more panic attacks. I was also hoping they’d tire me out and I would just sort of pass out but instead it’s just making the adrenaline rush feelings make me super dizzy and then causing me more anxiety. I don’t think I’m going to get any sleep tonight. I have to “wake up” in one hour for my exam... :(

This is the first night this has ever happened to me. I had a fever right before bed and took medicine and I am really hoping these weird rushes are part of the illness I’m fighting off and not going to continue. I am used to nocturnal panic attacks and I’ve learned to cope with them but these adrenaline rushes are freaking me out and I really hate them.

When I saw it snowed today all I could think about is me getting ill!! And trust me I can't sleep because I'm afraid, I only sleep when my eyes are closing automatically. One day I hope we can all overcome this. My body pains and mentality is so bad majority of the time

Anxiety really sucks but at least we aren’t dying from a terminal illness. It just sucks because we always feel like we are going to die.

It never hurts to check , I get that fast flutter , sometimes you can see it make my shirt move , try slow breathing . But to put your mind at ease , get checked

I get ectopic beats alot and they are horrible .Mostly they can be caused by anxiety the cardiologist said as I have had an echo done and I have a normal heart so maybe ask for one of these just to put your mind at rest .Maybe see if you can have an 24hour ECG done aswell to see how many you are actually getting in a day. The strange thing is some people get lots but feel none and others get a few and feel every one x

I got rid of my palpitations by taking magnesium malate, I take one in the morning and 3 in the evening along with one potassium in morning and one in evening. It seems to have calmed them down completely and stopped my awful cramps. I went to a naturopath and it was linked to my thyroid and other imbalances. I was also breathing wrongly and I was shown to stomach breath and given exercises. Definately worth the money and has saved my sanity worrying about my heart with every palpitation. It worked for me but for some it could be heart problems. I would suggest booking an appointment with both, get it checked out to stop you worrying but also get any mineral or hormonal deficiences sorted which can also be a source of anxiety.

First step is to see a cardiologist to rule out anything bad. Second, drink lots of water through out the day. As soon as you wake up from the time you go to bed and even keep water by your bed at night. Do you take magnesium? There’s a chart on this page that shows how much to take based on sex and age. I used to get them and I started taking magnesium and staying hydrated and it worked. I rarely get them now, maybe a few here and there during my time of the month. (It’s mostly hormonal.) The first step for me was seeing a cardiologist to be safe. Also, fish oil is good for heart health, minimize caffeine and salt too.

Thank you for your response. No, I've not taken supplements for some time, but I'll give magnesium a go, as I've heard it's had some effects on other people. Thanks for your advice!

URGENT: I have found this video on YouTube - and all I can say is it's amazing. I have also taken some magnesium supplements, but after doing this nifty trick, my palpitations have reduced significantly. Granted, it may just be a placebo, or it could be the magnesium. youtube.com/watch?v=g_NiTRk...
