Klonopin: Does anyone know if klonopin can... - Anxiety Support
Klonopin
Klonopin is a benzodiazepam that brings quick relief of panic attacks and anxiety. As you would expect it has been thoroughly tested and been helping people for 45 years. Why on earth would doctors prescribe it if it made you worse?
Someone told me if your on it too long your anxiety gets worse.
Trees, I think you'd have to be on it for a very long time for that to happen. The same has been said of diazepam which comes from the same drug family as Klonopin but back in the 1970s I took it every day for 2 years and it never made me feel worse or became less effective.
I suggest you take it as I know how overwhelming your anxiety is but take it expecting it to be beneficial, don't take it expecting it to make you feel worse.
The medication isn't working anymore as a matter of fact I feel worse. Crying all the time. The clinician cut back my antidepressant she said I shouldn't be on two antidepressants. The doctor put me on it
Thanks I've been on it for a 5 years. My family doesn't want me to take it anymore. My husband keeps telling me I'm going to die.
As Jeff said klonopin is one of the many Benzodiazepines. It jdiffers from the others in that it has a longer action. I took it for several year with no problems. Definitely didn’t make my anxiety worse! Good luck to you.
How did you get off?
I started with Xanax which has a very short half life. I switched to Klonopin about 2 years ago. I’ve not had any side affects and it helps with anxiety and sleeping. Good luck and God bless.

It is always a good idea to discuss how you are feeling with your doctor and your carers who see you regularly when you start a new medication. Keep an open mind but report any changes you notice to your doctor and your carers and discuss with them. This will allow them and you to work out what changes (if any) are related to the new medication. HOpe that helps.
Hi Trees - I'm not sure whether you saw my reply to you last night on another post, but in that I mentioned that it is my understanding that klonopin helps for anxiety, which seems to agree with the other posts above, but that it could make depression worse. From your earlier message, it looked like you were referring to your depression and didn't mention anxiety, although I know how they often go hand in hand. Is it possible your husband or doctor are thinking that depression is the more important thing to deal with at the moment, which is why they would like you off klonopin? For the record, I don't remember exactly when I started klonopin, but I was probably on it for about 5 years. I dreaded getting off, but it really wasn't as bad as I expected.
But I'm on 21/4 mg. I hurt all over from tension.
Klonopin was the worst thing that ever happened to me! 8 years later I'm still living with its after effects! I suffer from a terrible anxiety disorder I did NOT have prior to this poison! So, please be careful.
