Does anyone here drink a lot of diet coke. I have had 2 terrible bouts of anxiety and depression over the last 20 years. I was a habitual diet coke drinker, maybe 3 to 4 cans a day and each time I decided to quit drinking to try to be healthier Each bout of anxiety/depression occurred around these times when I quit and lingered for awhile. I was going through some stress at these times, but my life has always been pretty stressful

Sounds like it might have been withdrawal from the caffeine. I had this when I quit caffeine, I had many symptoms that resembled anxiety symptoms . Now I have nothing with caffeine not even chocolate

how long did your symptoms last, I have kept going back and forth which I know has not helped stabilize my nervous system

A while like 2 months I'd say. The thING is I can't tell you exactly because I also had anxiety symptoms that came right after which were similar

This is exactly me ive been drinking diet coke for years and years and when i stop i seem to get headaches and feel a little stressed and stuff but apprently withdrawal is a real thing from it must be a chemical or something in it you need when youve had it for so long. Infact i have a bottle next to me now -_-

I know that aspartame is broken down to phenyalanine which is needed for dopamine, but I don't know if it is too small amount to have any relevancy. Of course there is caffeine in it which of course will cause withdrawals. But I always replaced my diet coke addiction with coffee so I don't know.

autumnthebrat2, It's been known that diet cola can cause aspartame withdrawal symptoms which can include anxiety and insomnia. The caffeine in diet drinks have a lot more than regular colas to replace the sugar content. Replacing your drink with coffee is just adding fuel to the fire. It's got to be an all or nothing at all attempt. It sounds like this is contributing big time to your anxiety. It's a trade off in finding something to replace a passion. Is it worth the effects you have in having coffee or cola? Honestly for me, chocolate is worth it :)
