Hi I was wondering if anyone is taking amitriptyline 10mg because the doctor gave me them scared to take them from reading the side effects
Amitriptyline: Hi I was wondering if anyone... - Anxiety Support
Amitriptyline
Any good scared to take them after reading it because the doctor also gave me migraleve the pink tablets also if I don’t take amitriptyline
But how do you sleep does it knock you out and give you a good night sleep because I need to sleep properly too stressed out with my stomach operation soon
But it makes you very Drowsy and I’m a very anxious person I get worried when I’m too drowsy I think I’m dying I hate this anxiety and acid reflux so bad
Anxiety about taking anti-anxiety medications is another sympton of anxiety.
Anxiety makes you weak and think weak minded
Mo, I took 50 to 75mg daily of amitriptyline for more years than I care to remember. First it works in counteracting anxiety and depression and nerve pain. Side effects I noted were dry mouth and weight gain and it helps you to sleep but I didn't feel sleepy during the day. It's been around since the 1960s so is a known quantity, went out of favour when prozac came along but now back in favour due to minimal side effects. You can drink alcohol in moderation whilst taking but they don't supply the alcohol. Never take the notes that come with meds too seriously as they are just covering themselves for all eventualities. I've no idea how effective a 10mg dose will be, the normal dosage is 75 to 100mg initially then a maintenance dose of 50mg a day. A psychiatrist at the Priory Clinic in London wanted me to take 150mg a day but I drew the line at 100mg for a short period then 75mg then 50mg.
Sorry to hear that your a brave man il give you that I’m a worrying and anxious guy I don’t know why I’m like this but il give it a shot I just shit my self when I get to drowsy I think I’m dying always god knows why I think I hate be drowsy I just wanna sleep like a normal person but that’s hard nowadays
No he gave me it because of my broken sleep pattern i only get 6 hours broken sleep 3 hours and wake up for and hour and back to sleep for another 3 hours life I crap at the moment with my sleep
I think he gave it for anxiety and my depression and sleep problems and Nerves problems in the brain 🧠
It if make me sleep properly at night that’s fine by me but I had enough of too many side effects with medication it can be scary when you suffer from bad anxiety and when your very anxious but il have to try the medication out to find out god help me with this
I understand but il just take the amitriptyline but then I’m thinking take the migraleve instead because it’s the safer option and less side effects
The problem is with me I check on the internet and utube about the medication and it puts me off from taking them that’s all
Reading the side effects gives me more anxiety in the Leaflet🤣
Thank you for the advice and I will try to take the amitriptyline if they don’t work il take the migraleve instead thanks for the chat you calmed me down a bit thank you 😊
I'm the guy who's always pushing Claire Weekes' Acceptance method as described in her first book 'Self help for your nerves', I recommend everybody with anxiety disorder to read it, it's been in print for 50 years and still selling thousands each year. If you go to Amazon and read a few of the readers reviews it will give you an idea of the success of this method, 90% of the hundreds of reviews rate it Very Good or Excellent. The phrase 'saved my life' crops up regularly. It's available from Amazon either new or used for just a few £$. You might find it helpful.
I’ve had them mate, they were ok for sleeping don’t think they agreed with me tho so I spoke to the docs about coming off them and done it myself and that made me even more determined to rid the anxiety with out medication, and going well so far 👍🏻
I take Amitriptyline at night around 8:30pm, initially I started on 10mg daily to help me sleep because insomnia was a huge problem for me, I hadn't slept for around two months and had just started a new job. After two weeks of improved mood and sleep I stopped them, and my anxiety started up again but only very mild. I restarted it again at 5mg per night (half tab) and it still does the trick although I don't sleep as deeply as on 10mg. If you are concerned you could start at half the dose and see how you feel the next day. Also take it relatively early to avoid that hungover feeling the next day. I never experienced it myself but have heard it is a common side effect.
All the best to you! Hope you get some rest soon. L x
I've been taking amitriptyline for 10 years, 10 mg a night, for sleep assistance. It actually did help for a long time, but it isn't helping any more. My doc's answer was to up the dose, but I do not want to take more of this stuff, I am in the process of going off it. I worry about memory loss. He says at such a low dose it's not an issue. I wonder. So after 10 years of 10 mg a night, I am slowly, very slowly, going off it.
I never took amitriptyline or migraleve last night I just took some paracetamol 1000mg it did the job but got a little headache but I can live with that
Hi. I was on Amitriptyline for several months and did not experience any serious side effects. I took it before bed so that I would not be tired during the day while teaching. But no problems with it. I hope this helps.
Tired it last night after a good time in bed it didn’t go down we’ll felt like crap in the morning felt dumb for some reason and very slow like a zombie 🧟♂️
Hi I started taking Amitriptyline for head and neck pain about 10 years ago, the dose has been increased gradually over the years and i am now taking 25mg for pain. I find that it is extremely effective for pain but it has left me with the feeling of foggy brain. My responses seem to be slower and im very forgetful lately, everyone seems to notice. Is this something that anyone else has noticed on Amitriptyline.
Now ive read that Amiriptyline can cause dementia even if you finished taking it 10 years previously.
