I’m not sure if this is anxiety or not but since I was about 8 years old I have been waking up during my night sleep and feeling very strange. I used to see these hillucinations of a space ship squeezing through a tiny hole in the galaxy. Now it’s more like I wake up in panic mode. I feel like everything around me is moving very fast and my mind is moving normal speed. I will usually get in the shower and after about 10 minutes it will wear off. I’ve always been told it’s a night terror and I’m just half awake and half asleep. This “ night terror “ thing doesn’t happen every night but on a rare occasion. Sometimes it will happen 2 or 3 times in one night. Could someone please explain to me why this is happening.

Waking up in the middle of the night in panic mode
Hi Juulious,
I thought night terrors happened when you are overtired.
Not knowing anything else, Dr Google gave me these Fast Facts about Night Terrors • Run in families.
• Are not dangerous except if sleepwalking or using appliances
• Can last 10-20 minutes.
• Occur in stage 4 of the sleep cycle.
• Can happen at any age 1 hour - 100 years old.

I too experience something similar to this. I’ve just recently within the last year starting waking up two to three hours before I need to and I have this feeling of extreme panic. I cannot explain why I have this feeling of dread and I am worried about things that really don’t need to be bothering me. I hate being woken up by this feeling because it seems to affect my whole day. When it happens it causes me to be anxious and depressed all day.
