I swear this paragraph was written for me.... - Anxiety Support
I swear this paragraph was written for me. Exactly what I go through every day.
Hi Mpa5524,
Thanks for sharing this text. You feel less alone when someone else has more or less the same experience as you.
Did you know there is even a word for therapy by books? Bibliotherapy is an expressive therapy that involves the reading of specific texts with the purpose of healing and supporting good mental health. It uses an individual's relationship to the content of books and poetry and other written words as therapy.
I think it can apply to all on this website. Some symptoms are common, others are unique to an individual but the root cause is always fear. Fear of the thoughts, fear of the physical symptoms etc etc. As I said earlier, acceptance of the symptoms you dislike ( fear) so much will cure anxiety. When truly accepting, you no longer fear what is happening to you and lose interest in them. They don’t bother you and disappear. The books I’ve mentioned about recovery describe the same symptoms and more. They only frighten you because your nerves are sensitised. When your nerves have calmed down, you will laugh at the things that frightened you so much.
Don’t expect instant results. I would go to bed thinking I’d cracked it only to wake in the morning to a freight train running through my body packed with anxiety. It was like Groundhog Day ( good movie) for quite some time. No amount of talking to yourself will calm those sensitised nerves over night just in the same way you can’t talk yourself better when you are feeling ill with flu. You just accept that you don’t feel good and that’s all there is to it. You slowly get better without giving yourself pep talks. You can’t force recovery. You have to let recovery come to you.
So true. This is my second time going through this. 1st time was 21 and seems like ages ago when I try to remember some of the copping I went through back then. Just feels different this time around.
