All are available on amazon
Happy reading!
Judi
A friend of mine mentioned to read , and said they helped her , so I'm hoping they might help
Thanks
Hope and help for your nerves I'm reading it again.also listen to her on you tube talking great inspirational lady she died in 1990? Her legacy lives on helping all of us !!! I've had a hell of a week appraisal and a grilling from occ health and she helped me as I could hardly get out of bed one day acceptance is the key we can't help the way we feel I've got to go out today with my family don't want to but with her recordings and powerful words I'm going out walk on the beach.we haven't been out as a family for 3 weeks as last two weeks I've refused to go out on my weekends off as I save all my energy for getting to work.long post sorry.read book great xxx
My local library use to have all her books in stock, maybe try there before you buy. In UK too.
Never thought of doing that .
I'll look there , I'll check them out first .
You can check up online to see if they have it, well you can my local library at least.
I'll try that.
I like having my own books because if I'm having a blip, I like to go back to them.......mine have been read and re read 100's of times.
I've seen some on eBay I'll probably end up buying . I've heard nothing but good things about the author . I like to read to take my mind off things . I have a kindle but I still prefer reading actual books .
I ordered mine via bookdepository.com. The title of the book is “Self-help for your nerves”. It shipped from UK.
Thanks for that information
@welshy1064 it really is a cool book. Detailed explanations and tips on how to overcome anxiety.
To be honest, I also ordered the same thing for my Kindle - title was a bit different (it’s the US version) but had the same contents — like literally the same word-by-word. The Kindle version I purchases via Amazon US is “Hope and Help For Your Nerves”. Of course, by thwsame author, Dr. Claire Weekes.
@asianspirit
I'm looking forward to reading it , I hope it helps me , my therapist has told me I have to try and slow my mind down so hopefully it will help . If it can teach me how to .
But if you plan to go for a paperback copy, then I highly recommend getting it from bookdepository.com
Listen up everybody, Claire Weekes first book is titled 'Self help with your nerves' in the U.K. but for some reason when it was published in the U.S. itwasvtitled 'Hope and help with your nerves'.
But it's exactly the same book, no difference whatsoever. Just to confuse books with both titles are available from amazon.com and amazon.co.uk and the kindle download seems to be only available amazon.co.uk.
@ jeff1943
I was confused this morning
Im not got at making decisions to start with ...
I'm in uk so it's a bit clearer which one I need to buy now
Welshypool1064, so you'll be wanting 'Self help for your nerves' in the u.k., sorry I called it 'Self help WITH your nerves' should be 'for your nerves'. On Amazon you can buy used copies for a pound plus postage.
In my opinion it is the pre-eminant book on anxiety disorder and has helped tens of thousands of people to recover. I first read it in 1974 would you believe, it has made such a big difference to my life. Claire Weekes herself experienced anxiety disorder as a young woman whilst studying to be a doctor and she worked out what's called the Acceptance method to cure herself, then years later wrote this first book to help others and as a doctor helped to heal patients from all over the world. She was an Australian but travelled the world to advocate her method. People say that when you start reading it you think she knows you personally and you soon recognise yourself in its pages. It immediately brings understanding, reassurance and an end to bewilderment.
If you look at the hundreds of readers reviews on Amazon there's a graph showing that over 90% rated it Very Good or Excellent.
Her method is easy to understand but takes persistance and practice. It is life changing.
I haven't read any of her books yet, but, I have read, " From Panic To Power, "by Lucinda Bassett. It helps me.
This is a link to an audio book of hers - you can save all 4 parts... it’s great, saved my life 😊 junior-anxiety-depression-e...
I just got ‘ Freedom from Nervous Suffering ‘ & ‘ Hope and Help for your nerves’. Both excellent! Although I have the books, I also got the recordings, I find her so comforting, that with my iPod nano in my pocket,if I get a wobble, the good doctor is there. And she really does understand, she cares too.
I downloaded the audiobook from iBooks.
All the best
Me too.i found it all very confusing with all the different books.
I tried all the books and there was a video!!
The most powerful impact and education for me was her audio.I had them in 2 cassette tapes.Apart from explaining things clearly and rationally I also found the power, clarity and confidence of her voice impacted the information deeply in my emotions and mind.
I Definately found her audio better than all the books!
These days there are several good programmes based on her work that are complete in themselves.good.
valentin77, I have read her book as well as more recently purchased the audio CDs
and you are absolutely correct in that she makes quite an impact. When I read I tend to skip over a lot, with her audio, it is pretty hard not to listen to what she is saying. Each and every word is so rational and hits home. It's like she knows exactly what we are going through. Her explanation is clear coming without any doubt. And like you, the power and confidence of her voice makes one believe it can be done.
You Tube also has her videos which are amazing as well. The woman taught this so many years ago but it never gets old. She is one of the best doctors on the subject of Anxiety.
Make it a good day valentin77 xx
Absolutely.I think she should have her portrait up in the hall of fame of contributions to psychology.
I am a consultant psychologist myself and I feel the utter simplicity, searing directness, absolute truth and her own powerful voice as a communicator really deserves this place.
And to think what did people have in 1961 ?.
Very very little.
Now there are many excellent programmes and apps based on her principals but still her voice and searing rationality goes to the roots.
Wondeful, and while Beck,Ellis and Skinner are raved about in cognitive and behavioural therapy(quite rightly I feel)poor lovely Dr.Weekes is almost unknown.
Welshy1064, In the U.S. it's called "Hope & Help for Your Nerves" but it makes no difference what version you read. Anything by Dr Claire Weekes will help clarify Anxiety and how to rid yourself of the daily struggle in dealing with the symptoms. She was an amazing doctor in her time and still continues to amaze me every time I hear her words "Acceptance" is the key.
Good Luck in going forward. x
