Had to get my heart shocked.... Sucked....

I have a formal diagnosis finally, SVT of the heart.... I was lying in bed watching TV and my heart took off to 223 bpm, i only know the rate because paramedics showed up and told me to tense up to get my heart back into rhythm. That didnt work so i was cardioverted. Not fun, thats basically being shocked while awake to get your heart back in rhythm. Normally sedated during the episode but they didnt have time to give it to me. I can only describe it as frightening and painful, they said there was a 20 percent chance my heart would stop during the procedure and doctors were standing around me with nurses incase that happened, and painful when they did it, felt like someone hitting me in the chest with a baseball bat. It knocked my heart from 223 back to 70 in one second. I go for a heart ablation coming up. Doctor talked to me afterwards, said SVT can go years and years being misdiagnosed, he said he had a paitient that had it for 20 years and was topd anxiety anxiety anxiety until they had a episode like mine and it was finally caught and the ablation cured their issue. He said rule of thumb that doctors go by, heart rates upto 180 max are panics, anything above that is a heart rhythm issue and needs to be looked at and he said 180 for a panic is rare, theyre taught 160 and under is normally anxiety anything above needs to be looked at. Also SVT will bounce around, they seen on my ekg, my heart rate go from 180 to 223 to 140 down to 80 and back up to 190, all in a 12 second period and when your heart does that, it feels like crap.

Armyguy, this has certainly been a learning experience for you. After the ablation, I think you should somehow get a Certificate of Accomplishment for hanging in there and becoming your own advocate. Best of Luck to you. When this is behind you, I'd like to see another video by you with a smile on your face and helping others who may be going through the same thing. Keep us updated.

I suffer with same, but I have a hospital fear which makes things even worse, my heart normally gets to about 280 and within minutes of episode starting the docs say it's the equivalent of just run a marathon.

Still not been cardioverted they bring it down with drugs normally within 7 hours, and it takes me about 2 days to start feeling normal again. They have offered me ablation but just don't think I can handle it.

Sotolol has been keeping it under control, only one episode since June 2016, but the paranoia is through the roof every hour every day.

I wish you all the luck and good health, and please keep us informed.

That's crazy! Why didn't they have time to do the sedation. I've been cardioverted twice. Both times they weren't in a rush at all. Tried several different methods to try and get it back to normal, then decided to do the cardioversion. Once they put an IV in and give you the sedation meds, you are out in under 5 minutes.
