Hi. I have been diagnosed with agoraphobia anxiety and suffer really bad panic attack when trying to leave the house. I haven't left the house in weeks. I have just been prescribed lustral and propranolol tablets. Did you ever take meds and did they work? Thanks.
Hi Libbyd88, I was a long time sufferer of agoraphobia. Kept me in the house for close to 6 years. You want to break that pattern as soon as you can because it just gets easier to not leave your house. Whatever it takes to overcome your fears is the right approach. Once your fears calm down some and you take that first crucial step outside, the rest goes much easier.
Getting therapy while starting your meds will also help you with the support you need at this time as well as addressing the issue(s) that prompted the agoraphobia. Small steps become bigger ones. Don't get discouraged, stay strong, stay positive and go forward. Lastly, use this forum for the understanding from others who are going through the same thing. Anxiety may seem to have taken over your life right now but it can be overcome. Good Luck dear.
Thanks agora. I was handling it ok around February time. I would go to a shop or something with my mum forbannhour or two and felt super anxious it no panic attack. Since then o suffer panic attacks every time I try and leave the house so therefor I don't go out. It's horrible. I feel so sorry for my kids that mummy never goes out. It's always daddy. X
Libbyd88, it will happen for you in your own time you will once again be able to go outside. After a while, those 4 walls start closing in and the house doesn't seem all that desirable. I started out slowly and after several times drove my car a little further and one day went to my favorite store and before long I realized I had been in there for over an hour. I had gotten so involved with shopping that I forgot I was scared. Good Luck to you.. x
Hi Lybbid
No,I've never took any medication. To tell you the truth I'm a bit scared of medications and I don't know if I would ever take them.
I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. Must be very hard. Are you doing some kind of psychotherapy for the anxiety?
Thanks kessa. I can't even leave the house to go to any therapy or doctors. When I rang the doctor yesterday I was so scared she was going to say I have to go in to see her but luckily she prescribed the tablets over the phone. I just hope they work for me. X
Must be useful to do therapy in your house..I know about online therapy. They do it where i live. Maybe you could check if is there something in your area.
I'm happy you write here, at least you can have some friends online and some support. I cannot imagine not being able to leave my house, must be so hard.
I really hope medications are effective.

Hi kessa welcome to the site i hope you find the help or advice ypu want or need ! I noticed you have both anxiety and social anxiety i was wondering do you have depression the only reason i was asking is i have both anxiety and depression so would find. It might help you understand i may be able understand were your coming from please take care david !
Hey David,
thank you very much for replying..Well i'm now waiting to starting therapy and the "assesment's outcome" but so far I've being asked to fill up a questionaire about my mood and anxiety and my answers indicated higher scores on anxiety and social anxiety questions and low or 0 scores on depression scale.
The doctor told me I feel low sometimes but like everyone else but he told me I experience some worries and thoughts when being with people.
However sometimes I lack motivation, for exemple waking up or showering is a struggle and I m having low energy due to overthinking and stress.
