After much time of putting off going to a counselor for my anxeity, I've finally made an appointment. My first appointment will be an evaluation. Has anyone has had one of these before outside of the diagnosed psych evaluations that are taken when you're diagnosed? And if you have, what normally happens if it's any different from that?
Counseling Evaluation?: After much time of... - Anxiety Support
Counseling Evaluation?
It all depends on the counselor really. Make sure they are experienced in anxiety disorders. Past that the first meeting will probably be a lot of paperwork, questions about yourself. Then a Q&A with the counselor. They will probably ask what you want to get out of therapy and what you want to work on. After the first 2 or 3 meetings, it will start to hear more towards techniques to help you cope. After that it's really based on your personal needs. It can be very helpful, just be honest 100% with your thoughts and feelings and be open to treatment. Be prepared to possibly feel tired or some anxiety after the first couple meetings. It's totally normal and will go away. They just ask a lot of questions that make you dive back into what gives you anxiety. Which for some creates more anxiety. You might be different though too. It's all gravy though, just be open to it and enjoy it. Good luck.
Hi , First well done in taking the first step to see a counseller. Normally they will ask why you are seeking counselling and will give you space to talk. They will normally do the general anxiety, depression scale each sessionbut
It does depend I have found NHS counselled are more likely to do the scale than private counselling.
