Freaking out: I get these strange feelings... - Anxiety Support
Freaking out
It is the chemical released to inhibit movement during sleep. We are so sensitive we pick up on it and the release adrenaline to combat it. Trust me I understand. Start telling yourself it is natural sedative and it you are safe.
I get the brain zaps when I'm trying to sleep, it's awful when I have high anxiety like now. I haven't suffered with those strange feelings like having been drinking but I bet that's awful too. I'm sure what Teerings has written is right and you are safe.

I have the same problem except I don't feel like I've been drinking, I feel like I'm being suffocated. Like I'm drowning. Then all of a sudden I jump out of my sleep in total panic. I don't even know where I'm at. It's just your anxiety. It's at such a high level that your brain starts to overflow when you try to shut it down for the night. I don't know if that makes sense or not. What I should say is, you may have to get used to this until you work on some relaxation techniques. Your mind is over taxed. It will get better. You are not alone.
This happened to me last night, each time I was about to fall asleep a surge of energy would shoot up towards my brain and i would jolt up, glad to know what it is, was having a hard time relaxing last night
