Does anyone else try to take a deep breath for no reason and then keep trying until they can? I find my self doing this quite a bit at the moment and when I can't get a full breath I panic and carry on until I can. Even after getting a full breath for some reason a carry on and repeat the cycle.

I know this feeling! I do this ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I even try yawning to get that deep breath that I need & I won't get it sometimes. π it definitely makes me panic a little bit. Try to distract yourself & not think about your breathing. That's helped me a lot βΊ our bodies do what they naturally need to do & if you don't think about it, you eventually will be breathing just fine & go about your day! Hope the best for you! π
Hi Chris-saunders, I have gone through the same thing as you as well as I'm sure many others have. When we are anxious, all our muscles are so tense including the diaphragm. When this happens we feel as if we cannot expand our lungs to get that full breath. Then we panic which squeezes the diaphragm further. Sometimes we try to yawn in order to open up those muscles and get that full breath. However, we are so fearful that it happens repeatedly. It is a negative cycle that keeps repeating itself unless we let go of the fear and welcome acceptance. It may be uncomfortable but not serious. It becomes a habit and habits are meant to break or they take over our lives. When you feel like this, make sure your shoulders are back which will open up the chest. Rather than breathing swallow, strive for a calm and relaxing deep breath. If it doesn't happen, let it go. Don't stress about it, don't strain in trying to force it. It will happen on it's own since breathing is automatic. Hope this helps some.
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply , i find myself also trying to yawn to get a full breath, the cycle is so evil and trying to break it is so tiring sometimes
Yes when my anxiety is running high. I am a singer so I found I was having trouble controlling my voice, which caused me great panic because I always count on my ability to sing. When that anxiety spell calmed down though (took 6 weeks!), I could breathe freely again.
