Epigenetics & anxiety.

Iv`e been reading quite a bit recently about how anxiety & phobias can be passed down in the genes as a result of trauma that happened to a parent or grandparent. Both my parents had bad childhoods involving some form of neglect abuse & poverty, & my maternal grandfather fought in the trenches in ww1. He didn`t suffer any ill effects as far as I know, but I know nothing about my paternal grandfather, he might have suffered from shell shock. What I`m wondering is, can anything be done to alter the damage to mental health caused by inherited trauma, or are people stuck with what`s been handed down from their genes.
