I have a phobia of vomiting (emetophobia) and I've been given metronidazole for a dental infection but the side effects sound awful. Has anyone else taken it? How was their experience?
Please reply, I'm in a total panic

HI My little boy used to take this, as he had a huge bacterial abscess on his neck, he was fine with it, he was,nt sick with it but we where told that if he started to feel sick there was anti sickness drugs to be taken alongside, maybe if you go back and explain to your gp that you have been given it by the dentist and are worried due to your fear of sickness they can give you the anti sickness. Its important to take it as the infection you have can make you feel unwell to x Hope this helps Donver xx
Hi thank you so much for replying to my very panicky post! All support helps I've been brave and taken it so it's now time to wait and see what happens. I definitely need to stop googling side effects for antibiotics anyway! x
No problem happy to help x And well done on taking it. We all have a google ban on here to stop us assuming the worst lol x It works You have to remember that every single known side effect is written on them leaflets with meds, even if it only happened once x I hope it has you feeling better soon x
Hi
I have never taken that particular antibiotic but have taken other kinds & I know if you read the side effects it can make you really anxious
But as Donver says anything reported they have to add it on the list but it may have only ever happened to one in a thousand the odds are very low & the benefits of clearing up the infection are much better
If anything I find any antibiotic can sometimes cause a bit of an upset stomach , but that passes
Hopefully you don't have to take them for long & you will soon have finished your course
So many of us have HA or meds fear on here so what some of us decided to do is say we will ban ourselves from looking on Google , as it always lists the worse possible scenario's which we zoom in on !
So when we feel tempted we come on here & talk or reply to someone instead & it helps you so much more than Dr Google ever does !
I hope you will feel you can come & talk here when you need to , everyone understands these fears & the anxiety , so nothing you say wont have been heard before & you will get lots of support
I hope your infection clears up soon
Love

Hi whywhy thanks for your response.
I tell myself all those things yet somehow always think the worst anyway! The past week or so has been a particularly anxious time for me so it's made me decide to get my life in check and self refer myself for therapy, which I have done before but I'm going to stick with it this time! I'll try and avoid Google in the future too, I think! It's nice to know there are people that understand!

I had to take a course of Metronidazole for an infected tooth last year. Iv`e taken it before, & have had no side effects. The only thing is that you mustn`t drink alcohol while taking it, because that does cause sickness.
hi I have also took Metronidazole a few times and had no @ick or @ickly feeling but I did have a nasty taste in my mouth all the time which apparently is another side effect , I to have a fear of being @ick so I know your concern and fear x good luck and hope you get through it without any side effect
Hi everyone thanks for all your support. I'm getting through okay. I get a bit bloated but I think that's because I'm on a healthier diet at the moment! I have to force myself to have a whole meal before I take a tablet because I've heard that can stop the v* but part of my phobia is only eating "safe foods" and not eating until I'm so full. It's a weird situation but it's also shown me that I do have some control and it actually motivated me to refer myself for therapy. I had my telephone assessment yesterday and now I'm on a 10 week waiting list for CBT!
I am a little worried that my antibiotics aren't working though!
