Been to the doctors....

So I'm just back from the doctors...tried to explain as much I could but he wouldn't let me say half as much as I wanted..probably due to the fact they want you out in 5 mins but I did manage to tell him the important bits...he has referred me to the Cardiology Dept..he think my panic is induced by the heart palps and not the other way about so has told me to if I want to continue taking the Propranalol which I'm unsure about.

My mum came with me and asked him why he thinks I've got worse in the last 3/4 weeks and he straight away blamed the dentist injection I had( don't know how he knew about that) but he thinks that's what it was?

Then I got my bloods taken so we shall see if anything arises from that.

I don't know how I feel or if I feel am any further forward. I guess maybe speaking to a cardiologist might make me understand why this is happening.

Well done you managing to say at least some of what you wanted. It is difficult sometimes because you need time to say what's wrong. it's not that we are inarticulate it just that when we have anxiety stress etc we need to be given time to get our words out. If you go to see a cardiologist they should be able to tell you whether the palps are causing the anxiety and if that is the case what is causing the palps. However, as hospital appointments can take a while I would suggest looking on the net for relaxation techniques I think headspace has been reccommended on here. Also if palps continue at this rate or get worse then go back to see GP. after all they have said they have increased due to dental injection so they should be calming down soon!. They will probably have got this info from your records.

Hope the palps are getting better or calm down soon

Thanks you.

I am going to start back Yoga..I sort of gave up with it over the Christmas period and I'm starting back CBT tomorrow so I'm hoping that will see me through till the appointment.

Yeah my mum just said that the dentist and doctors records are probably just the same and he would have been noted that I had a reaction to it.

Hi Ashley

Well sounds like you got the most important points over to the doctor

I know what you mean though feeling they want to get you out as the appointments are about 5 minutes long which doesn't give us much time

Can you make double appointments at your surgery sometimes I have asked for one when I think I have a lot I need to ask , maybe next time if you go you could ask if yours do them :-)

I can see where they are coming from in a way , did you have anxiety before the palps started or did you anxiety start once you started with the palps ?

Have you ever asked your self seriously if these palps went away completely you wouldn't feel anxious any more ?

I know I used to think that & believe it unfortunately though for me when something did disappear something else came along to take its place leaving me anxious but that's just how its been for me but not necessarily the case for everyone

By going to see a cardiologist can certainly do you no harm , they will be able to look further into these palps & hopefully give you peace of mind , at least they are doing something & didn't just dismiss you & you wont be any worse of for going & hopefully it will be a positive :-)

Maybe think about taking the meds if you tried them for longer you could settle down on them & they could help , but I wont push on that one as I have a meds fear so I know what it s like for me I would & do struggle to take anything & when I have to I just say I will take one for today & then hopefully I will keep taking them :-)

Hey you.

You know know I've never thought about asking for a double appointment..I'll need to ask next time I call.

I'll be honest with you the panic and anxiety started waaaay before the palps did so I guess there is a basis there for what's causing them and you are right one fear is replaced with another as they were just annoying at first and CBT had helped me learn to just ignore them which is what I told the doctor but I explained to him that they were stopping me in everyday life now...I was feeling dizzy with them..I couldn't exercise...my chest was hurting...and this is no way to live my life so it had gotten worse.

My mum did say if I went back on the propranolol I had to stick with it this time and not give up after 3-4 weeks but to keep taking them regular.

Hi

Bit of an expert here going to see the doctors I should have said sooner :-D

Well I am no doctor or professional but if you had the anxiety before the pals started then from my experience the anxiety was causing the pals but that is where it is a good thing they are sending you there as they will get to the bottom of it & I find when you go & see the specialists on most occasions they have more time to listen to you , I do see this as a positive thing they are referring you :-)

I agree with your Mum over the meds even though like I said I don't feel I can push to much when I know I struggle with something but I would listen to her with what she is saying because she is right :-/

Hello Ashley.

I'm pleased you managed to explain at least some of your worries to the doc. When I first started with anxiety I was the same as you and know how scary it can be I saw the cardiologist several times eventually I was put on beta blockers and things calmed down dramatically, I still have palps but nothing like I used to ( a couple of mins at most ) so I hope you get a result from your appointment with the cardiologist.

Take care Kenny xxxxx

really don't know how they'er training doctors now, years ago your doctor was a family friend, and had what you call a bedside manner, the doctor I went to for years, sadly died,2 years ago.my doctor now, runs a pratice with 3 helpers, you never know who is going to see you,and each one tells you different things, its in and out,and to be honest,I don't trust any of them,I would change, but theres no other practice in our town,so what do you do?

Hi mairose

I remember as well when your GP like you say was your family's friend

When I was little my sister had measles & unlike now they would come out & visit

I remember the doctor chatting away & my Mum making him a cup of tea & to my sisters dismay she had a bag of sweets & he kept helping himself to one :-D

I am not sure where those days have gone but they have & what you do I wish I knew the answer!

Hope you are keeping well :-)
