Really shouldn't listen to friends at times.........

I had a lovely chat with a good friend today but she put the fear of god into me. She said all my symptoms are MS not Anxiety and I should demand a full MS test. I thought MS was when your lose eye sight and balance, but alot of what I am feeling seems to link to MS so my friend told me. I am being an idiot or not? I was doing fine till that chat!

Hi

Oh dear sometimes friends think they are GP'S by the sounds of it & they dont quite understand anxiety & how it affects us

Now as you have been to your GP who has had years in medical school as well as practising & they have said you suffer with anxiety , I would believe them as I dont suspect your friend has had any training !

Can you imagine going to the doctors saying I want a full MS test because I dont believe you , I believe my friend , I dont think they would be impressed

I can imagine how it has frightened you , as the symptoms of anxiety can mirror illnesses but I would believe my GP

Love

For the last 2 years I have had pins and needles severe pain in both legs and cramp. They think it is post viral have you had a bad cold or flu. Is this friend of yours an expert if not she shouldn't say things like that. My friend had ms and she walked as if she was drunk. Often you have weakness in one leg. Your doc would have sent you for further tests. Take care

I know I shouldn't listen to her but she was very demanding. I did ask my doctor about MS and he said walk for me so I did and he said walking is normal and well I've got nothing like MS wrong with me. He did say anxiety gives us so many symptoms which can be worry but if I was ill with MS or anything, I know I shouldn't have listened or panic but I think I won't let her upset me anymore with her ideas ! I do feel silly now

No dont feel silly , all of us with health anxiety react like this when we are told things , but you came on here , spoke about it , got your thinking back together , so you have done well :-)

About 20 years ago I had some symptoms that were suggestive of ms, & I was terrified for months, totally convinced that I would be in a wheelchair in a couple of years. I read that anxiety could cause these symptoms, & I had been going through a trying time, so I just waited to see what would happen. My symptoms went away as quickly as they came, much to my relief.
