mirtizapine or sertraline..: I have decided... - Anxiety Support
mirtizapine or sertraline..
Hi the only thing i can say here is that they can all increase anxiety and this is suppose to subside when they start to work which can be around 4 week. They say the first two weeks are the worst. I id some but found they didnt work for me. It a matter of getting one that suits us.
You could start one and assess it daily and go bk to gp after two weeks.

I do understand where you are coming from & I do no the fear you are feeling
I havnt taken these meds & have a med fear to , so I cant give advise on the effects these meds may have on some , but not everyone
We both no every med has to list every side effect that has been reported , but usually some where it says this has been reported by one person in so many thousands & that is a very very low percentage , I have to try & focus on that thought when I feel the fear
I always say I will take one for today & if I dont want to tomorrow then its up to me , making me feel in control
You no everyday you can come on here & we will support you with this , till you feel better , we will be here for you if you need us
I wish I could help more , but others that have taken these meds will give you better advise , but remember if its not suited one person , it does another & until we have tried them we dont no , i no I can stand need to talk , but this is the sensible side of my brain here talking
Let us no how you go on

Hi miarose.
I only have experience with Sertraline and it wasn't positive at all.
On the other hand, other people have taken it and found it was really helpful for them.
So really, just give them a go and see what happens.
Good luck to you xx
Hiya,
Ive been on these for a while now, 100mg and am thinking of weaning off and going down herbal route and counselling. give them a go, if they are not for you then give em up. You do need to give it a couple of months, i know it seems like a long time but it goes quick. Take them in the morning too as they peak 4-5 hours after administered.
I wish you all the best

Hi miarose,
I don't take either of these, but my mam takes them both so I'm happy to tell you her experience. I go in with her when she has doctors appts etc.
Mam was advised to take the sertraline on a morning & mirtazapine at night. Sertraline is a 'mood lifter', mirtazapine calms & helps sleep. I think this is why they are often given together. Mirtazapine can make you very sleepy when you first start but that soon settles down. Mam was told to take it 30 mins before bed, which she does & she is sleeping better than she has in years. She is also calmer & happier.
I know different meds suit different people but I can honestly say mam has had no problems with side effects. For her they are doing exactly what they should.
Hope that helps

I started off on mirtazapine for depression but I found they made me too sleepy. I now take half a 15mg pill to help me sleep. I have been taking sertroline for about 5 years now and find them really good. Don't really have any side effects.

thank you all for your replies,I am taking all comments on board,I know I need peace in my head, but I can't relax,my anxiety is too high, its awful what we have to put up with,I have a phobia of taking meds, but the pressure in my head is so bad..I havan't left the house all week, and I feel so weak,so Iknow I have to do something about this, sertraline might be too stimulating for me,I like the calming effect mirtzapine is suppose to give,so i'll give it a go,ta again my friends your all wonderful, and will let you know how I get on..god bess you all Miarose xxx
The only thing I can say is that if I don't take my sertraline I feel more depressed, I do feel anxious at the moment but don't believe it is down to the tablets. If in any doubt talk to your GP.
hi elainne, glad to hear your meds are helping you,my main problem would be anxiety,I have low moods because of it,im anxious all the time,I just can't bring myself to take a med thats going to leave me more anxious,to be honest it would tip me over the edge,my GP says i'm not depressed,I feel he dosen't care or understand my situation,he says I have GAD,he sent me for CBT,Ifound it very good, but since I stopped I have slipped back, even worse than before,I could go on ranting all night, all I know is that I don't feel right, thank you for talking to me....love Miarose.xxxx
I had CITALOPRAM in the cupboard for 12 months, just piling up cos I daren't take it. After hitting an all time low I took it and haven't looked back since. I know it's not the same medication but it's for the same thing, and no I didn't feel worse at all, in fact from day 8 I felt so much better. Bite the bullet and if it's no good go back and try another. Please don't be afraid. I feel wonderful now x
