Lump in throat
Get it checked by your GP. You could have a swollen thyroid gland which can contribute to anxiety/depression.
Hello Holly
Yes this is another symptom you can get with anxiety , it feels like there is a massive lump there & sometimes I have had to concentrate to swallow as it feels its getting in the way , even when having a drink I have felt it wont go down because of the lump I feel is there
I dont get it as much now ,but when my anxiety was at its worse I got it an awful lot
I no its not very nice & can be scary , but if you can try & tell yourself its anxiety giving you this feeling & try & accept it , it will start to go in time
Also I hope it helps to no others have had this to
Love

Hi Holly
This is normally the last symptom that pops up for me when my GAD is very bad, normally after all the others have subsided and then this is a sign to myself that Ive put myself and body through enough...its got various medical terms but I know it as Globus Hystericus, its not harmful just annoying, ignoring it will eventually make it disappear, I normally feel like I cant swallow and even when speaking I then find it hard to carry on as it kind of gets in the way..It will go though so try not to worry, anxiety can cause the weirdest of symptoms, and sometimes when you think you've experienced them all, pow your body tries to surprise you...I have always kept a journal so I can write down my episodes/symptoms so at crisis times I can refer to it and think aha ive had that before and im still here...You stay strong Dee xx
Yes,I have had that,it is called "globus"I had it for a few years then it left,I now just get it occasionly. My GP sent me to hospital to have it checked out,had the camera down my throat and as I thought nothing there,it is an anxiety symtom .
As 'formidible' suggests above: do consult your GP ... he/she should refer you to a throat specialist just to rule out a physical cause. My own GP isn't particularly efficient, and I had numerous appointments with him with regard to the 'lump-in-the-throat sensation', over a period of two years. Each time he diagnosed 'anxiety' and prescribed medication. However, eventually the lump could be seen protruding from my neck and he agreed to refer me to a hospital consultant ... it transpired that I had a large cyst on my thyroid gland! (This was surgically removed, along with part of my thyroid, and I've not had the 'lump-in-the-throat sensation' since! )
Hi Holly, just thought I'd add my two penn'orth.
I too have experienced this. When I had my ptsd I thought a holiday might do me good, wrong. I spent the whole week eating nothing but pasta with a thin tomato sauce, it felt like it was the only thing I could get down past that lump & that was a struggle! It eased when I returned home where I felt safe.
When I first took my daughter to the gp about her anxiety, she too mentioned this. The doc arranged a blood test for thyroid function, it came back completely normal so she is now much more accepting of the fact that it is her anxiety. It is slowly becoming less of a problem.
It is unpleasant I know & scary, but the more we can try to accept it for what it is, the better it gets. Easier said than done I know!
Best of luck

I had this and it was an infected salivary gland. Anxiety made my mouth go dry and that created the perfect enviroment for said infection. The gland was near my voicebox but felt like inside throat. An alcohol free mouthwash and phewing gum to encourage saliva production have helped prevent recurrence. Gp suggested such infections common.
Sometimes you get a lump sensation in your throat because you are tired, have you slept well?
