Have done all the mind over matter stuff, but how can it suddenly be so difficult to go in a sho or something after so many years of doing it?

Small steps Stella, take small steps....the mind is a trickster, a good way to tackle the problem is to go into many different shops, go anywhere untill the mind just accepts there's no danger and it is normal to do so x

Hi Stella & Welcome

And yes it does

I have had anxiety for years , I didnt start with this fear ,but 10 years ago I was out & I took ill & of course already having anxiety & then that dreadful experience , well slowly but surely I started making excuses & finding ways of not going out till now its such a trauma & the fear & anxiety when I do have to leave the house it beyond believe

I feel I am having a panic attack before I am even out the door

I didnt even realize this was happening to me till it was to late , I wished someone had gently coaxed me out before I got to this stage , but I dont even think I knew myself what was happening

I am having to work on this to & I do think you have to take it very slow

I dont no just how bad you are , i am ok in my garden etc , some even struggle with doing that

I would suggest myself , maybe the bottom of the street & back , bulding it up slowly , but make sure you feel comfortable with each goal you set , but keep setting them for yourself

Have you been to see your GP , if not even though I no that means going out , it would be a good idea , there is support to help if you ask

I hope it helps to no you are not on your own & keep talking , people will encourage you with every small step you take , as we no how difficult this is

Love

My older sister has severe anxiety and agrophobia. The anxiety definitely came first. I think the agrophobia is a symptom of her anxiety. But sometimes with it come other phobias ie the opposite of agrophobia, claustephobia and zenophobia etc.

Most definately. Anxiety made me agoraphobic. Fortunately , I am getting a little better but still find going into town or supermarket stressful. never was like this before the anxiety kicked.

I'm the same to, I have had anxiety for many years with little bits of agoraphobia that I managed to get through( I just thought it was my anxiety). Until April this year where I just suddenly didn't want to go out. I didn't want to see anyone and the only place I felt safe was at home. On and off now I can go out but it has to be on my terms.

my experience of agoraphobia is just to try and do things anyway no matter what and dont let your brain win. in a weird way i even dont feel completely ok at home sometimes as i know its not an option to hide away because im not willing to give up all the things i want to do with my life...
