Coming up to 4 weeks on sertraline,still feel low and still getting very little sleep.been to docs today and he has given me mertazipine and told me to stop sertraline.should I be given the sertraline more time.the thought of starting new meds,scares me.

Hi Bramwell , I can imagine how you feel even though I dont take those meds but I do take them for blood pressure & other things
I have a med fear & just like you , when I complained about my blood pressure tablets she gave me another one & I though , O no , I am to scared to change I have just got my confidence that the ones I am taking wont harm me , so I think I no where you are coming from
I would like to say what to do , maybe if I was scared , I would maybe give it another week , two at the most , with the old ones & then if I wasnt feeling any better , I would have to face the fear & start the new ones , but it has to be your choice

Have recently switched meds on to mertizapine they do help with sleep but take a little time to get used to them.i was on citalopram but they were getting ineffective I find the mertizapine make me a bit spacey but have been told this will pass.
Hi bramble I was on citalopram and had to switch to mirtazapine as I wasn't sleeping and weight was dropping off at an alarming rate. I switched with very little probs except a bit of heartburn. I found it great for sleep, anxiety and depression and feel much calmer on it. I was scared to switch but so glad that I did. If sertraline isn't making you feel any better I would give mirt a try I'm still on it and feel so much better than I did last year take care love eve x

I noticed some benefit pretty quickly as I began to sleep really well I started to feel stronger. I had severe depression and my anxiety scores were maximum so I was a real mess. I would say it took around 4-6 weeks before I started to feel the full benefit. I was on 30mg citalopram and switched straight to 45mg mirtazapine I hope this helps but if you want any further info please ask its no trouble. Wishing you well love eve x
Hi eve thanks for your reply,tried the mertazipine last night,but didn't work for me.i had a few drinks a thinking it might make it more sedating.sleeps a real problem for me,getting between 2and 3 hours per night.do you think this will change when the meds kick in.this is my first experience of anxiety

What dose are you taking? I thought alcohol would add to the sedation but for me it keeps me awake and then I feel rubbish for two/ three days so I've cut alcohol out. Everyone reacts differently to meds but I found it very fast acting in terms of getting to sleep and staying asleep to begin with and it still does now(usually takes an hour and a half before I'm drowsy for sleep) as with all meds I would stick with it for a few weeks and talk to your doc if you get too many side effects or of you don't feel any better. It's the best med ive taken but everyone's different. I hope it works for you love eve x
