On the 4th week of lexapro and struggling.

I started Lexapro 10 mg back on March 10. I did have a lot of side effects, but they were manageable. I actually immediately felt better after starting Lexapro. I’m not sure if it was the placebo effect or not but I’ll take it. Unfortunately, the last couple days I feel like I haven’t even taken the drug. I’m really irritable and angry for no reason. My ocd thoughts are back and overall anxiety again. I am still pushing through hoping this is just a bump in the road but it is disheartening as I felt I was making an improvement.

it can take months to take full effect, give it a bit more time and you can also increase your dosage if you talk to your doctor. I take 10mg and started 4 days ago but I’ve taken it for years in the past. This time around I’m going through a harder period of adjustment.

yeah I’m sticking in there and hoping this is just a passing side effect. It’s just discouraging as I felt I was starting to feel a bit better.

This can be a long journey, I’m positive you’ll find your peace! Do you go to a therapist/counselor?

It took a good 8 weeks for me to see the effect. During this time, irritability and anger are common. so please stick on with the med and soon you will feel better for sure. Best wishes

I started taking Lexapro about the same time you did, starting with 5 mg, then 10, now 15 for the last couple of days. Intermittent relief, I’d say, but after 3 1/2 weeks nothing consistent. In reading the replies here, I guess I have to wait longer.

I also suffer with obsessive thoughts, and sometimes I think I’m not allowing myself to feel the medicine because I'm tied up with that anxiety and rumination.

hang in there! for me, it took a few months to actually start feeling like myself. started with 5 and tapered up to 10mg, have been on 10mg lexapro for 4 years now. i call it "cruising altitude." it took a week of side effects and mental adjustment (brain fog, tiredness, headache, etc) and wondering if anxiety would reduce, but after enough time it really started to help.

Hi XStellarX Time is essential in allowing Lexapro to reach full

efficacy. 4-6 weeks is an average, however 10 mg may not be

enough for you. Please check with your prescribing physician

to see what he has to say. I had started out on 10mg but was

increased to 15 during that trial time. It is a good drug however

everyone reacts differently. Good Luck. May you reach the goal

you are striving for.. :) xx
