Dr put me on lexapro and trazodone...

The lexapro is for my anxiety. I have panic disorder and was having increasingly frequent panic attacks and then started not being able to sleep, at all, for days at a time. I have been on the lexapro plus trazodone for sleep for a couple weeks now. I am noticing that even on nights where I sleep, I am very out of it and groggy and basically useless the next day. thank God I am on summer break and not working right now, but I am not sure how much longer this will last. Last night I saw an increase in my anxiety and did not sleep well, after three nights of sleeping well in a row (which is the first time in a month this has happened). I just need to know if anyone else is on these meds and if they are also experiencing any side effects and how long they last / when will they go away?

Hi didn't your doctor tell you that it is very common to feel worse until the meds can properly enter your system and this can take up to 6 weeks. Unless the side effects are very bad then give it time and hopefully they will help you.

Yes, she upped it from 5mg to 10mg last week, too, so that could be another reason i feel slightly worse/not better yet. thanks for your reply!

Hi shannon_nicole777, I have taken trazodone for years. If I take it after 10:30 at night, I have a trazodone hangover as well. You have to be careful how late you take it, and adjust accordingly. Hope this info helps.

ok, but if i take it too early i fear it'll wear off too early and i won't sleep enough... but i do need to start getting up earlier. so i guess i'll try taking it at 1030 tonight and keep dialing it back til i can start at 10 or 930.... it affects me pretty quickly, usually with 15-20 min

I have also found that for me, if I wait more than 30-45 minutes to get ready to sleep, it seems to not work as well. Just try taking it around 30 minutes before you want to go to sleep. Also try listening to calming music like "Liquid Mind" with earbuds/phones. Good Luck!
