I have terrible anxiety and have had it for years. Antidepressants don’t agree with me.

I just wanted to know if anybody has a feeling like you’re on a rollercoaster due to anxiety. It’s driving me mad. I have health anxiety so my mind always goes down the wrong route. Just wanted a bit of re assurance. Anybody got any tips how to deal with this

it’s exhausting to deal with all the time I know. The waves of never ending anxiety are rough and hard to explain to someone who’s never experienced it, you aren’t alone.

Have you talked to a therapist or psychiatrist? If the antidepressants you tried didn’t work there are alternatives that can help in different ways. They can also help with different chemical combinations.

Meditation is another one, I always use guided meditation because if I’m left alone with nothing to focus on my brains gone! I use the app Breethe and it has ones specifically for anxiety that I like. One of my favourites is called anxiety release.

Showers work too, the water hitting in more than one area relaxes me n gives me something to focus.

I’ve heard holding onto ice can reset your system or the smell of citrus too.

Writing things down helps me focus n eventually find the underlying reason or what the trigger was.

I know it feels like the world of work, like why couldn’t we just be made up normally? Sometimes I find myself so tired of having to learn how to deal with, to learn how to live with it. But know you aren’t alone. I know that doesn’t always help but you don’t have to deal with it alone. And once you start going down the anxiety rabbit hole it’s hard to come back out, just focus on the bubble that you’re in now, don’t worry about tomorrow or the next day. Focus on the now, stay strong. I’m sure you’re exhausted but it will get better. Slowly but surely. Improvement isn’t a straight line. It’s going to have dips and set backs.

Thank you so much for replying. It helps to know you’re not on your own. I have tried a few therapists. I got a little bit out of the last one I saw. The medications I’ve tried didnt really agree with me I end up feeling worse and some of the side effects have been awful. I find the only thing that really does help is exercise I have downloaded the calm app and that is helping a bit In trying my best to try and ignore the feeling of anxiety or just going with the feelings but it’s hard thank you so much for listening and the advice I really appreciate it

I know that feeling. They say to sit and just let the anxiety run its course but that is sooo exhausting and seems impossible when it’s happening. Especially when all you want is for it to go away. It’s an exhausting cycle. I’m just trying to focus on one day at a time.

Yes, I agree. I want it to go away so much! It's unbearable at times. I just started prozac 7 days ago, and it seems the anxiety is worse! Any advice?

Try to hang in there with the Prozac. It takes weeks to reach it's efficacy and the anxiety may be worse for a little while. It worked great for me many years ago, but each person is different. Obviously if it doesn't lessen or go away talk to your doctor. Perhaps he/she can add another med with it to help. Buspar is a great non Benzo antianxiety. Hope you find the right meds to help. Anxiety is one of the worst feelings...

It really is isn’t it. It really takes it out of you. I just want a break from it. I try and carry on doing day to day stuff and not let it beat me but it’s hard

That’s really hard! It’s like all your energy is going towards trying to not lose your mind. The thought of doing anything else would be like someone trying to lift a house.

That is absolutely spot on. You can’t even describe it to people who don’t have anxiety

I remember this feeling when I started my first medication. For me it was a combination of the fact that it wasn’t working right that made me even more anxious. It did take a few weeks for me to start to see a difference. The waiting time is so annoying and frustrating. I did go back and see my doctor and he gave me a fast acting one to take while the other one worked. It’s way into my system. I think Ativan or clonazepam are two pretty common ones that can help in the in between while the slower acting drug builds up in your system.

The anxiety could just be happening as your body is adjusting to the new meds and building up. Plus if you are anything like me, I wanted a quick fix and it to go away. So the fact that it wasn’t immediately fixing the problem my anxiety got worse. That’s when I went to my doctor.

Hope that helps 😊

Thank you so just for replying. It really helps speaking to somebody that understands. That’s the problem isn’t it. The tablets make you feel so bad for a while. I too want a quick fix. They put me on amitriptyline and my heart was pounding and I’ve ended up with muscle twitches after stopping it. I’m due at the doctors next week so I shall have a chat with them.

Ya I remember that with the first one I was on. Good old Paxil, than I switched to Effexor about a year ago and it’s way better! The clonazepam helps get you through the in between and gives the slow acting one time to build up in your system. I think Ativan does the same thing. They are the fast acting ones that you don’t use long term. Just long enough for the other one to kick in.
