I have panic attacks that are almost mentally crippling. I can't work due to this and other mental issues. I have very few helpful techniques to help me get through an attack. I'm at my wits end.

Hi,I have had panic attacks which really freaked me out and didn't get early treatment so I suffered for months.

Finally, my GP did an ECG not long after a panic attack to confirm my heart was good.

The GP recommended seeing a therapist.

The treatment plan was for sessions focussing on the build up, the panic itself, recovering from it.

I had no idea of these phases.

In my first session, I certainly wasn't prepared to deliberately bring on a panic attack despite assurances I will be safe.

After 4 sessions I was able to have better control over my mind and body.

It's entirely personal choice if you try self help via books or internet.

The face to face approach with a therapist worked for me.
