Is GABA calm good for anxiety?

It slows down your brain by blocking specific signals in your central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord). GABA is known for producing a calming effect. It's thought to play a major role in controlling nerve cell hyperactivity associated with anxiety, stress and fear.Apr 25, 2022

According to another 2006 human study, Adham et al concluded that GABA reduces anxiety, and also provides immune system support for those under stress, making GABA supplementation ideal if you are looking for a safe Xanax alternative.Dec 12, 2023

" if you are looking for a safe Xanax alternative.Dec 12, 2023"

Short and getting straight to the point answer, Xanax is stronger, and your body is already used to that. (but it doesn't hurt to talk to your doctor/psych about alternatives)

.

For you, and/or anybody new out there that's reading this for that matter.

If you are looking to come off of Benzos, (which includes Xanax) please please please talk to your doc or psych (whoever is prescribing your Xanax) about it first.

If you and your doc come up with an alternative to Xanax, then it needs to be done correctly.

.

When it comes to Benzos, (especially for people that take them on a daily basis) I can't stress enough that it needs to be done with your doctor/psych knowing about it, and it needs to be done correctly.

I am talking from experience here. I have seen too many people making a switch from Benzos to something else or trying to stop completely, (without their doctor knowing) and it can get very messy.

But.. If you and your doctor/psych BOTH agree, and if there is a safe plan in place involved, then it can be done. (if it's done slowly - AKA tapering - and the dontor's/psych's plan is followed correctly)

Anxious Silver, you are so right with the weaning process in getting off long term benzos.

I was left on 1 small dose of 0.25mg, once a day for 30 years.

My GP said it was such a small dose, it wouldn't matter. However, when it no longer

was working, it was my psychiatrist (who specializes in the Benzo weaning process)

who safely took me off using the Heather Ashton method.

It took me 2 years. Slow and safe under professional care is the way to go

depending on the length and strength of the benzo.

Thanks AnxiousSilver for your input. :)xx
