Are there any local support groups in the western burbs of Chicago? Looking for in person support groups focused on mental health. Personally battling depression, anxiety , ADD and addiction. Doing GA for my addiction but need a group focused on the other. Depression is what’s really killing me. Thanks in advance.

Try looking at the NAMI website. I think there is an office in Wheaton near the DuPage County fairgrounds. I know they used to have events there.

I’m in the same area but beyond mental health professionals, I’ve never looked for a support group.

Keep me posted if you find one.

Hi KB2023 and Welcome

Have you tried calling the large teaching hospitals in that area??

Many of them do have in person support groups that are not widely

known about. Good Luck :) xx

First and foremost, welcome to this site. :)

.

Second, I'm from the Chicagoland area myself, AND I've been in a traditional sit down support group setting for almost 2 decades.

Third, what I am about to say may seem a little bit negative, but it's not my intent, and I am truly trying to help.

.

Support groups are a little bit harder to find post-pandemic, then pre-pandemic. (I unfortunately have lost mine to the pandemic)

I think the suggestion posted already about NAMI is a good one. I think "Emotionions Anonymous" may possibly help as well.

I also think contacting your local churches is another good idea. (more on that in a sec)

.

For what it's worth.. My former support group started out as a support group that was held in an office.

The group needed to charge a weekly fee, plus hold semi-annual fundraisers to pay for rent.

We eventually moved into a church where there wasn't any rent, but local churches sometimes don't advertise that they have a support group, because there are other types of groups that try to use the church office space as well.

.

It doesn't hurt to give a local church in your area a call, and if they don't possibly ask if they know anyone who does.

Either way, I wish you nothing but the best on your search, and this community is here as well. :)

Thank you for your response and welcoming me. I don’t find anything you said negative. I lost the group I was previously at due to the pandemic as well. I will continue to search and hopefully come across something. Thank you again for your response.
