I feel overwhelmed because I am currently in college and unfortunately have to return home for the holidays. I am also having surgery during the holidays. I don't want to go back home. Living with my family is not safe for me. I need to feel like I can get through living with them for those few weeks without engaging in bad coping skills.

I’m sorry that going back home is not safe for you. you can focus on your surgery. what is the surgery? what would be considered bad coping skills? do you have a plan for healthy coping skills?
Oh goodness. That's a tough situation. I use to just stay at school for the holidays. I'm wondering if you can set some boundaries at home.
For me, I would need to have a plan of what I will do when family triggers me. Is there a safe place you can go? Can you find a phrase to say when these things happen - like, "I'm not comfortable with this and need to go to my room" - whatever feels right for you. If you have a therapist, they can help you make a plan.
