I found that escitalopram, a very similar med (different variation of the same active ingredient as citalopram) made my anxiety worse as well, so I ended up going off it and am now trying a new med in it's place. I also take mirtazapine at night and found it helps with sleep and definitely got me out of the worst depression I've ever been in. Taking those two together is not uncommon. Unfortunately, finding the right med or combination of meds can be very hit or miss and take time.

Thank you for your reply did the martizapine sedate you though that's what I'm scared of

It can make you sleepy, which is why you should take it at night. Then I'm fine the next day. Of course, most meds will have the strongest side effects during the first few weeks, so I'd give it at least month to assess how you react. Honestly, everyone is different and you can't know for sure until you try it and give your body time to adjust.

I'm just worried about taking citraphram and martizipine together

Honestly, I have taken mirtazapine with SSRIs (the class of med that citalopram is in) for years. I take the SSRI in the am and the mirtazapine at night and personally have never had a problem with an interaction. If you are really worried, you can ask your doctor if you can wean off of the Citalopram and then try the mirtazapine, but my guess is that he wants you to start taking the mirtazapine so that it will start working as you are weaning off the citalopram. I would definitely reach out to your doctor and discuss your concerns if you don't feel comfortable, but it may not make sense to keep taking a higher dose of a med that isn't working for you.
