Hi everyone,

49 M here, after suffering from anxiety and depression for a number of years I have finally been diagnosed. I have been prescribed a medium strength antidepressant.

Hi, I'm glad you finally got your diagnosis and hopefully it is helpful to you. I'm 48 by the way, less than 5 months of turning 49.Are you feeling a difference on your medication positively?

I have depression and some anxiety, depression is the main infiltrator. Not found meds yet that work for me so I'm without. It isn't easy at all, but there is somewhere I can go if my mind overwhelms me that is open until 11pm at night.

Hi, I’m only on day 2 of taking my medication so I’m not sure if it’s going to work or not yet. But saying that I kinda feel better knowing that there is a diagnosis.

For me it’s anxiety that is my main struggle and that is aggravating depression that I have suffered from for years.

Don't know how long you were on meds or how many you've tried, but there are alternatives to medication. I am in my late 60's and after decades of medication, some successes, some not, I became treatment resistant to meds. Luckily my therapist recommended TMS(transcranial magnetic stimulation) and for me it has been a lifesaver(literally at one point).

I am literally 3 days in with taking medication. I have tried a few non medication options like meditation, journaling and grounding and they only help short term.

As I said above TMS is what helped me. It's a noninvasive treatment. I had 3 rounds, the results of the first two each lasted about 6 months and the last one is still working after over a year and a half. Hope your medication helps and you get to feeling better!

Hi my psychiatrist wants me to think about that next since a lot of meds didn’t work. The only thing is he said it’s daily for 36 days. How long were your rounds and how far apart. Thanks

My first two rounds were 5x/week for 6 weeks. The positive results of each of those lasted 6 months. My 3rd round was at a different facility (SuccessTMS). It was 5x/wk for 7 weeks and the positive results are still working after just over a year and a half. Each treatment is about 20 minutes. You're in a comfortable chair and you will feel intermittent tapping on your skull, annoying and a bit irritating but fine once it's done. Usually won't notice results until at least a few weeks in, sometimes not until completion of the round. And as with any treatment results vary and it doesn't work for everyone, but does have a high rate of success. My 2nd round literally saved my life. It's a big time commitment, but we'll worth it.

Welcome! I hope your new medication helps. I'm sure you know it can take up to 6-8 weeks before you notice a difference. And often dosages need to be adjusted.

in reply tobethelbee

Yes. That’s the frustrating part!

I remember all too well. Hang in there! Hopefully it won't take too many tweaks to get you feeling better!

Thank you! Dr appointment next Tuesday. I feel like I’m losing it pretty much every day when my b. Disorder acts up for weeks or months! I’m dealing with now for weeks! :( I’m waiting for it to end! The ups and downs are really taking a toll on me right now! I feel like I really can’t handle this anymore lately ! I’m trying. Trouble sleeping eating etc. “ Normal “ People really don’t know what another person is going through unless they go through it too. And there’s quick judgement without even trying to understand or have any kind of compassion! -Shay

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time..It's difficult when others don't understand. And, yes, those who have never experienced it will never even begin to understand. I had a lifelong friend(of over 50 years) that had been supportive through many of my depressive episodes, even had come to visit me during a couple hospitalizations, but 2 years ago she said some hurtful things to me during an episode and we are no longer speaking. One thing she said to me was "you don't seem to be trying hard enough to get better". I won't even go into the rest of that conversation. Anyway, I sincerely hope things get better and you start to feel better!! Hope the doctor appointment goes well.

Thanks! Me too. You have no idea! I’m so struggling right now it’s just so hard! :(

Hi, yes I have been told that I should expect around 6-8 weeks for them to work if of course they are going to work. I have a follow up appointment at the 2 week mark to see what I am feeling. Thank you for your message

I’m 51M yr old and yes antidepressants take a while till you see results. I’ve been on them since my mid 20s. Effexor is the only one that has worked for me. I got off it in March but I had to go back on it because I had a relapse in depression. Still going thru it. I wish I hadn’t stopped it. Hang in there hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, I’m really hoping that I don’t need to change the medication too many times or at all.
