Be the warrior you need to be... and your being very brave, feel good about yourself for that ability to go forward even knowing it's uncomfortable....I hope for you that the more you keep trying the less the fear will be. hang in there, your doing great.
I agree that it is good to accept and acknowledge. I think there is a lot of hope though, because as we do things that we are scared of we become better at them. I am terrified of starting new jobs, but you get a day, week, month, or year into it, and the fear is lessened. For me there are still good and bad days at that point, but overall there is growth. Same with dating, meeting new groups of people, or trying backflips on a trampoline. We are human. We feel fear, and we will grow.
Great message, but I have to say I differentiate between something like jobs, dating or meeting people versus someone trying backflips on a trampoline!! 😊 😅Anyone trying that please proceed with extreme caution and someone experienced spotting you!
Bravery is where I’m trying to get to. Not there yet. Social situations, trying new things, not being as good as others, embarrassment , failure (and maybe even success ) are all things that have caused me to retreat. I cannot give much advice but my therapist has made me realize that having compassion for yourself is very important. Also, our struggles and trials are very real and very difficult even if others can’t see it. So it is important to keep trying, give respect to small steps forward. I can’t prove it but I think doing stuff to help others really can help your mental health and can sometimes be a non threatening way to socialize. You know, like volunteering and stuff like that.
Yes, I totally agree that you are on the right path and the way to deal with fear is by leaning into it and welcoming it even daring it to increase. Know that you can always come back to your center and ground yourself. Practicing simple mindfulness and gratitude are very helpful also.
Hi,I suffer from post traumatic stress., Major depression disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Have been suffering from age 16 off and on and am now 65. You're right acceptance and self-compassion are critical in learning to live with mental disorders.
I can relate. Yes, acceptance and self-compassion is really important especially as we often don’t receive acceptance and compassion from others. There is a real lack of understanding around PTSD. I’ve had it since I was 22 (I’m 63 now), after being in a car accident where I was injured and my friend was killed. So many people just think they could have been stronger and ‘gotten over it’ better than I did. As it was, I have managed to have a pretty functional life, but as I got into my 30’s I started having major panic attacks from freeway driving. So I am afraid to do that by myself, but I’m trying to overcome the fear.
So wonderful you are moving forward with your goals and with determination not to let fear get in the way! 💗 You are helping to inspire me, too! I pray for strength for you- it is absolutely in you!
