Anxiety about peeing!

Hi I have never posted on here before and I have been trying to find someone with the same issue as me for 30 years and not succeeded.

I get obsessed about not being able to pee properly.

It normally goes away after a few weeks but thus time its sticking around. 3 months now.

Its not physical its mental. Some kind of self harm i suspect. I am seeing a counsellor now and on medication sertraline but still sticking around. Its quite debilitating as I seem to not be able to empty properly and am at the loo a lot.

Anyone with anything similar and any advice appreciated.

hi I know you said it’s not physical but mental but the first thing I think of when reading your post is enlarged prostate 🤔I can relate to that as I had been diagnosed with chronic prostatitus so symptoms can relate to yours ?

I have something called interstitial cystitis...inflammation of the bladder. I have heavy night time issues, urgency issues, incontinence issues, several UTIs, etc. It is no fun living with this condition. I was able to directly treat my bladder via bladder instillations but the effect wore off in a month. So I do struggle every day and live in the bathroom. I spend more time there than anywhere else in my house! Agree with Gingerbreadman ..... I'm not a guy so can't relate, but my husband who is just 41 started with some prostate issues recently. I would still see a urologist if you can.....even if you think it is all mental. Do you take or do anything that relaxes you? Just posted about L theanine which I take daily and is just a supplement. I did get put on gabapentin though for my bladder and I finally started sleeping!

Thanks and I am sorry to hear about your issues. I know it isn't physical and not a UTI or overactive bladder it is a control thing. Over control and won't let go. All very strange and never found anyone with the same problem. Guess I'm just unique!

I would suggest a different medication despite it being a mental struggle. Maybe another antidepressant or anti anxiety. You may have overactive bladder syndrome? My daughter had some urinary problems as well and we have her on Effexor, it seemed to help a lot. I mean, everyone's different but, ya never know. I'm sorry that your struggling and I'm sending you light ✨️

It could be that you are dealing with some degree of OCD and possibly health anxiety. The OCD thinking can make you get stuck in the same thought loop and obsess about it until you learn how to deal with the OCD thinking.

You might check out the youtubes and website of Paige Pradko, she is a therapist that had OCD and health anxiety, healed herself and now helps others. Another one is Matthew Codde at Restored Minds, he is a therapist who did the same and now helps others and has youtube videos and a website.
