Failure should be our teacher

Okay this is a hard one for me personally

"Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing". Denis Waitley

“Failure is accompanied by a variety of emotions: embarrassment, anxiety, anger, sadness, and shame, to name a few. Those feelings are uncomfortable, and many people will do anything they can to escape feeling emotional discomfort. Allowing yourself to feel bad is motivating” Google

Failure and success are two words I hesitate to use. They are defined by my limited ideas of good and bad. And I often do not know enough to make a determination one way or the other.

Just my thoughts.

I’m sorry to hear that. I haven’t figured any way to not ever feel bad. My emotions are uncomfortable. And sitting still and hurting is tough to practice. But I’m fortunate in that I have my psychiatrist, therapist, 12 Step support group, medications, exercise, prayer and meditation. They help me stay stable enough to work on/with the remaining depression and anxiety. I wish you peace.

I like the comment that says, "I am better than that..." and to try to do better the next time, and to not let mole hills become mountains!

I have a lot of trouble with this statement. Besides being bipolar, I am over 60 and have ADHD. It has been hellacious for me at the workplace when I make an ADHD mistake. I’ve learned ways to avoid some of the mistakes. But there R times when I still make an ADHD mistake. The definition here does not help me at all.

The only bad mistake is one that you do not learn from.

Amen. I have to relearn this lesson on a weekly basis.

This is real truth. I hope one day it will be a permanent part of how I think about myself and my journey.

Thank for posting.

I was just last week praising one of the people I know on Facebook. It's not easy to unpack stuff in the daylight and redefine it so we can move on

Hard for me to accept as well. But it’s true and refusing to try new things because I was afraid I would fail or not do it “right” held me back for so long.

My therapist says “the success in in the attempt.” That’s my new measure of success: I tried.
