failures and progress

I started to read a self help book and started to feel optimistic as the examples and exercises really seemed to connect with me.

Then I went to the mall today and cried in the middle of a pizza restaurant. I am trying. When will it get better.

I know I just started but I'm nervous that this book won't really help. I can't seem to stop crying spells and it's embarrassing to have anyone ask why you're crying over something small or insignificant.

I just want to get better.

Crying is not a bad thing. It helps to get our feelings out. You probably felt better after you cried.

If you've been feeling sad for a long time it may be depression. How long have u been feeling this way? Did something happen recently in your life that may have started the sadness?

13/14 years now. I have depression definitely. i have abandonment issues so people leaving me or if I feel like they don't care, that triggers it

Yes but waiting list for therapy is very long. I'm waiting for a call about it. I do see a psychiatrist but medicine helps only so much

Ok in the meantime try to journal your feelings or even posting here helps too. Meditation may help you too. Also, yoga or just walking can boost your mood.

You're not alone in feeling like you do.

The fact is millions of people in the US suffer from anxiety and depression.

Thank you. I'll keep posting. It seems to help when I write. Also my birthday is coming up so trying to look forward to that to take my mind off things

I'm planning to start working out again as well.

Thank you for the reply & suggestions

Your not alone. There are times when I cry at work other times when I cry in my room. Sometimes I try to hold back the tears especially at work but it's just away for me to let go of what ever is bothering me at the moment. It's okay to cry. Just hang in there and continue with the book! Sending you hugs.

Thank you. I have similar breakdowns while working and try really hard to avoid it. Once it starts I have a really hard time stopping then I get so angry with myself for being so sensitive. I keep trying to remind myself it's ok to be sad sometimes. I guess I need to keep doing that. I hope you will feel better too

We all got to remember to take it easy on ourselves to. Try not to get angry at yourself just keep telling yourself it's okay to be sad. You have plenty of people here that will listen to you. So continue to share and vent especially if it helps. Hope you feel better soon to.

I think SunnyDayz1 made a good suggestion to journal your feelings. That way you can "see" any common themes. Also, as part of journaling, you could write down what you were thinking right before the crying spell. We often have so many inner discussions (usually negative) going on in our heads that we lose track of what thought(s) triggered the sad mood and the crying spell. That way you can deal with the negative thoughts in a more realistic way. Look up cognitive dissonance on the web and it will show you the kind of thoughts you may be having that cause the crying spell and helpful way of reframing them.
