What's the essence of our existence?

I'm sorry, this is not meant to be religious or something but have you ever wondered what our purpose on earth is? Really, why are things the way they are? Why we do the things we do? There is just so much diversity in life but very little meaning to it. Help me understand.

My purpose of life is being a mom to a special girl. Secondly, being a nurse to help others. It's different for everyone and we will be directed towards it within our lives. I don't believe we miss it. Sometimes there is even purpose in death. Now that's a whole other topic.

That's awesome, ma. As a 19 year old girl questioning the essence of life, do you think I am worrying more than I should? Or I've got a problem?

in reply to AnIslandOfPeace

No, it's the eternal question but one that will be answered in our journey and often leads us in an unexpected direction. The universe takes over and by that I mean God and our purpose is fulfilled sometimes without our control. I don't think it jumps out at us either. Little things we do or say, or give helps others in ways that changes there lives, makes them better parents for example, or quit using drugs or love themselves more. Such actions have a ripple effect in the world. We may not even realize when our so called purpose is carried out.

Don't worry about it. Just live your best life and be good to yourself and other people. Give what you can, when you can. Love your children with all that you have and never forget to pray and thank God under all circumstances.

Life No doubt is a challenge, when we hit that brick wall that's when things we learning are put to use. I've had a difficult life. My mother and father had 9 kids based on the "Be fruitful and Multiply". We we're Always hungry, my mother was angry all the time. I honestly don't know how I've made it though? I'm going to be 65, I guess I lived One day at a time? I Never took risk, was afraid of the unknown. Basically Life is what You make it? I don't remember the last time I was was Truly HAPPY? Sometimes I don't Care if I wake up or Not? Don't know if this helped?

I’ve had a bumpy ride through life also! Lost my Dad at 11 and had 2 stepdads. I have suffered with depression and anxiety since my teens! I was blessed with 3 beautiful girls and have 4 grandsons. Guess that is my purpose in life!

Hi.

Wow ! What a question ! Ok here goes .

Why are we here ? Maybe it's due to the fact that every cell, particle needs energy and this is what we inside us. I won't go down the road of god as I think if there is a god then surely he wouldn't put people though the pain and agony of death in a brutal way. Then there is the big bang theory, evaluation perhaps it's meant to be. This could go on all day

But I would like to think that because of love we owe it to ourselves to be kind to people certainly makes life worth living especially if you can help people with problems. Hope you find the answer your looking for.

Take care.

Dave.

Hi AnIslandOfPeace.

That’s a very good and deep question. I don’t have as much experience as you do age-wise, but, I guess, it is more of perception type of question.

Well, I hope that our purpose is to help each other, make ourselves more humane, kind and understanding. Make ourselves better.

I try my best to do this. It brings smile to my resting-b*tch-face (😉). Even when the person is a total jerk, I don’t want to “pay him back” by doing something equally nasty.

I want to find purpose in my life. I really do. And my career isn’t helping me very much. I am a lawyer, so I am always in the middle of some type of drama, quarrel, misunderstanding, anger, etc. Thus, I am on my path to finding a better career that involves more positivity.

Lol. You obviously have more experience, ma'am. I'm just a 19 year old. I'd love to hear more from you as well, thanks.

The essence or purpose? Philosophically and physically very different questions. I’m going with purpose.

I believe I exist due to the God spark.

The purpose of each human is to touch others in a positive way. We are a society and family culture to reach full potential of our God spark.

Honestly your individual trials are not for you. They are for you to learn so you can help another through a similar situation.

Some humans have a spark with a set goal. Without everyone else dispersing their knowledge these people will not reach the Divine for us.

In the Buddhist paradigm I can’t be here unless you are. There is no me unless there are others that can comment about me or love me or even dislike me.

On a selfish thought; you live, you die, your sh$t goes out to the curb.

Are you selfish or do you care for others? I prefer to care for others.

Doaty

Hi. You sound a lot like my 16-year-old :)

My daughter loves philosophy, with her favorite being Alan Watts, who has written/recorded a lot about the meaning of life. I like him as well, and also like Eckhart Tolle. Let me know what you think of these two!

Great question. A little beyond my pay grade to answer. But what I can offer is that we are sometimes able to create our *own* purpose in life. This is empowering. Simple examples include having a hobby, a sport, a project, or a cause that you're dedicated to. Learning/education can be a purpose until you find better answers. Career is a purpose for some, but not for many. At a higher level, giving back, caring for others, and trying to grow yourself spiritually are all purposes that can feed your soul, whether or not they answer the big question. Thanks for asking!

The purpose of life is difficult to answer as a question. When your at school a teacher will mark you right or wrong. So who can say what is right what is wrong and what we are meant to do? I have found I'm happier helping people rather than being selfish. Being kind feels better than being mean. No matter how much stuff I buy it does not feel as good as giving someone something instead. Be happy
