Hello. I found out a few years ago (as an adult) that I am ADHD. This came after a post-partum anxiety diagnosis. Now that I know how common it is for ADHD individuals to also have other challenges like anxiety and depression, I am looking to connect with those that have similar experiences.
I am also in progress of having a child evaluated for ADHD. I know that he is super sensitive and in tune to those around him, and am wondering if he could have anxiety too.
Anyone out there with that has ADHD and __________? I would love to hear your experiences.

I work in tech so I’ve been diagnosed with mild case and it is almost a requirement in tech. I took meds for awhile. I was diagnosed with the flavor of the day also. A cousin was diagnosed and also took meds. I think there are meds that benefit but I think it is more important to learn how you engage successfully whether you need them or not. Reason is it is a different way of thinking. Literally . They may be visual or auditory which isn’t supported in schools. Mainstream education supports readers. Visual and auditory learners learn best through pictures and drawing or talking. Anyone would be anxious or depressed if they can’t succeed in such an environment and scrape by.
I implore you to explore that likelihood. Your child may not even be full on ADHD but rather a visual learner. You could be an auditory learner who needs a second opportunity. There is a new book by temple Grandin that explains the different kinds of learning. She is also an advocate for modifying education so that everyone can learn. And a professor and speaker. And autistic which is on the same spectrum.
My cousin was encouraged (pushed) into engineering school and failed. Today he is an influencer traveling. I have no doubt he will found a business. He learns on the job. School will be secondary which means no loans. Good for him.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I definitely am a visual learner, as is my son, and I didn’t think about how formal schooling is set up to address.
I have depression, anxiety and ADHD. Depression and anxiety was diagnosed about 25 years ago, ADHD just last year. My ADHD manifests itself in that I lose my train of thought, and excessively ruminate and can't stop, especially if I do something that is viewed as not being perfect. I will literally look at everything from every single angle. I have never been late to an appointment or done anything rash. When children are diagnosed with ADHD, the main symptoms are running out in front of cars, missing deadlines, excessive talking, etc. I didn't ever do any of those things.
I take Vyvanese. I was on Retilin but took a DNA test to see if my antidepressants were the best for me and the results said that Vyvanse would be better for me than Retilin.
My son was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school. He went on meds and lost a lot of weight. I think he was on meds for about two years and then he just developed strategies to cope. He also is never late, but he ruminates like me. He is now in his late 20s.
Thank you for sharing your story. Glad to hear that you both have strategies that have helped you. What type to DNA test did you take? That sounds interesting. I have been changing meds for effectiveness, and some of the issue seems to be with what generics the pharmacies stock and how effective or ineffective they are?
