I'm 37 and unemployed. I've been trying to quit drinking but every time I do I get a seizure. I'm terribly depressed and don't know who to talk to.

Depression, Anxiety and Addition
Seizures are experienced by some when stopping drinking. It’s dangerous. That kind of withdrawal can be done in a hospital setting. A hospital emergency department will take you and worry about the bill and negotiate later. Or you could contact a local detox center and they will screen you if you can stay under their supervision and care or you need to go to a hospital to detox. Detoxing alone won’t stop you from drinking again. You’ll need a plan as to what to do once you’ve detoxed. When I left detox, I went straight to AA. That plan worked for me. 🍀
Absolutely, you should be detoxed in a hospital or detox center setting where they are equipped to deal w the withdrawal. Alcohol withdrawal can be deadly and should not be done without medical help. You need benzos to help w the seizures and anxiety of the initial withdrawal. There are medications that can help you manage your alcohol misuse (from the mayo clinic, go to the "treatments" section Alcohol use disorder - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic mayoclinic.org/diseases-con... naltrexone, or an injectable form of it, vivitrol can help. It blocks the feel-good effects of alcohol. There's meds that can reduce the cravings too. And meds that can make you physically ill if you do drink. Doctors always recommend support groups as well. AA helps a lot of people, but it turns a lot of peeps away too. Refuge Recovery is a Buddhist form of AA that is more peaceful and meditative. Celebrate Recovery is science and evidence based. You have options. You don't have to do it alone. Getting help in the form of medications and support really can help, you just gotta know how to advocate for yourself.... ☮️
Sharing links to the other recovery programs you mentioned would be great. 👍🏼
Refuge Recovery's link is here refugerecovery.org/, I misspoke, the evidence-based program is called SMART Recovery smartrecovery.org/, Celebrate Recovery is bible-based, celebraterecovery.com/. I'm a heroin addict, if I had to choose one, I'd pick SMART Recovery, although I also enjoyed Refuge Recovery's meditative approach, it was very peaceful and non-judgmental. It just depends on which group you feel the most comfortable with, really. I've used suboxone for 3 years to block the effects of heroin so I can't get high. It's the longest time I have ever been sober, I couldn't do it without the suboxone. I'm not currently in a program, just using medications to manage my addictions. I used for 10 years before, so I know how deep you can be in...
You might want to consider joining the Drink Free forum in HealthUnlocked. You’ll get support there too.
I agree about needing medical attention for your detoxing. I have an alcohol problem too and needed help getting off the booze. Then I went to AA.
