I have used effexor for 20 years. I’t recently stopped working so I decided to make a change to Prozac. I’ve been off effexor for about a week and it n Prozac for 4. My anxiety is terrible. Has anyone else experienced this after changing meds and does it stop?

Hi Mcmom13, Yes, changing meds can be a difficult process. My doctor always tells me to give the change at least 4-6 weeks to feel full effect. If you are really struggling with feeling anxious, sometimes doctors will prescribe an additional medication to help you through this transition period. Or, even change it to something else. What works for one person might not work for another. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your doctor about this. It’s a difficult process and involves a lot of patience. I’m so sorry you’re going the this. I have been there several times myself. It’s not fun I know. Best wishes to you.

Similar issues with me. Was on one SSRI that stopped working affer 17 years , then was switched to another SSRI a few weeks ago. Anxiety is super high, but the dose is upping every week or so until I reach target level. It's a struggle.

In the same process of changing meds. Yes, Drs say a few weeks for it all to adjust. Trying to just ride the rollercoaster of emotions and side effects. Yes, my anxiety has been heightened since the change, but again as per Dr. This is normal. He told me it was not going to be an easy ride. I keep myself that it will get better. Accept and be thankful for the small steps! Take one minute one day at a time. This board has helped just knowing that we (I) am not alone!!! Stay strong, keep positive and reach out when you need to vent or someone to chat with!!!! 💪🙏❤️

I was on it for many years and it stopped working so my doctor switched me to Cymbalta which is pretty much the exact same thing but slight difference in chemical compound and it worked the same as the Effexor used to.

thank you all for your insight. I hate that making changes to help us can hurt us in the process.
