Hey there, I'm not a doctor or a pharmacologist, but I took a look at Effexor's drug profile. It depends on what you were prescribed the drug for. Please note that these are general rules of thumb rather than set-in-stone. For example:
- For generalized anxiety, it can be increased by no more than 75mg every 4 days, but should never exceed 225mg/day.
- For social anxiety, it recommends no more than 75mg/day in total.
- For panic disorder, it recommends 37.5mg for 7 days, then 75mg/day once daily; this dosing should also not exceed 225mg/day.
There are more recommendations based on PTSD, ADD, and a specific kind of pain, but as you can see, the dosing has a lot to do with your diagnosis.
It's also very important to consider the other ways you're handling your anxiety outside of meds. Are there other controllable factors in your life that could help before you increase the dose? Some find success with breathing exercises and yoga, others with therapy, and others still with "brain dumps"- writing down what's making them anxious. For me, it was a matter of improving my sleep, eating, and exercise habits, and drinking hots drinks or taking hot showers when it got out of control.
I hope this helps! Wishing you lots of success in managing your anxiety!
if you take a look at the drug info on effexor, it is prescribed as an anti- depressant, and not mainly for anxiety. You may need a second prescription to help with the anxiety.
I have been using Effexor for 12 years and it has always worked great. The Effexor pooped out so I am hoping it will work again with increase . Thank you for replying 😃
. No two people are the same so you know what works for you and what does not. So instead of comparing doses, focus more on the symptoms. If you feel depressed or anxious still, it means you need to talk to talk to your doctor about your meds.
