I was wondering if people could share their views taking Mirtazapine here. I’m 14 nights in taking it and was wondering what experiences of others were like.

I was diagnosed with Anxiety, depression and stress.

When do you feel the full benefits and what were your experiences.

Thanks

I've been on it for about 2 months now. I think it's helped me w my anxiety, less panic attacks and less generalized anxiety, and it does knock me out at night, but only for about 2 hours, so nothing to really write home about there. It's also helped my appetite, as I had none and now I can eat. I was worried about weight gain, and I have put on about 6 pounds in 2 months, so gotta keep an eye on that, but I'm eating more, so a little weight gain is to be expected. It took about a month before I felt full effects. It doesn't seem to do much for my depression, so I also take Abilify to help. I'll be asking to increase my dosage of Remeron when I see my doc next to see if it helps more w depression symptoms...but helpful for anxiety and appetite for me. I'm down to 3-5 panic attacks a month vs like 15, so that's huge...

That's a low dose for Depression/Anxiety. I used to take 45mg a day but can't remember if it helped or not. Long time ago. I take 15mg at night now to help me sleep.

Do you remember how you reduced the dosage, and if it was very difficult?

I'm pretty sure I just quit Cold Turkey

From 45 mg. to zero without bad problems? Had you been taking them a long time?

I'd like to cut back to see if it helps my sleep.

can I ask what dosage you are on. Thanks for the information. This site is great. The more information the better as I’m only two weeks in at 15 mg. I do get groggy in the mornings just lay there. Today I’ve decided to start exercising to se if I can kick start something positive. It’s depressing enough off work and wanting to return.

I have taken mirtazipine for an extremely long time. I was first placed on 45 mg. for panic, anxiety and depression. It started to work in the usual amount of time these type medications take about 4 weeks and up to 6 weeks for full benefits. I take it with a whole regimen of psychiatric drugs as I am bipolar I. Eventually my dose was decreased to 30 mg. And now I just take 7.5 mg. at bedtime. The only side effects were grogginess in the morning and some weight gain. The grogginess subsided after about a month. The weight gain was not enough to stop for the benefits the drug can provide.

Thank you for sharing this.

So I should be patient. I’m only two weeks in today at 15mg.

I’m trying to stay active. The 15mg has list it’s affect getting me to sleep or staying asleep. Woke up today and thought I’ll get a bit of exercise each day as all ice Gwen doing is sitting in and waiting for it to work. It has switched my anxiety and worry off.

Thanks for your reply.

You definitely need to give it more time to figure out how it is working for you. Whether or not any side effect are tolerable. In general most psychiatric medication takes 4-6 weeks before maximum benefits are reached. There is only one FDA approved medication that I know of at this time that is supposed to work immediately.

It lifted me out of the deepest depression I'd ever been in. Over time (many years) I've had to increase to 45 mg and add other meds (it's not unusual for meds taken long term to lose their efficacy) for my anxiety, but I have stayed on it. I take it and night and it helps with sleep. I gained a bit of weight, but was also able to balance that out over time. Honestly, I'm afraid to go off of it because of how much it helped!

Can you let me know what it’s like going up to 45mg ? I’m kind of in a middle passage. As I say I have only taken 15mg for 2 weeks. Lost it’s potency to keep me asleep and just apprehensive if I’m told to increase my dosage. I’ve never taken antidepressants ever so it’s a new world for me.

Thanks.

Any medicine takes time. I like mirtazapine because it makes me feel a lot better in my head when I take it. If I had a bad day, when I take it at night I feel like I can cope a lot better.
