Well no dizziness for me but I’ve been on it for about a month and I still feel sick like flu symptoms and I’m sick of it enough that I’m going to go down from 15 to 7.5 at night to sleep and see how that works. I wish you the best I don’t know if your dizziness will go.

I started taking it in January 2018. I started at 15mg and found that it was best taken in the evening as it would make me very sleepy (but no headache or dizziness). When the dosage was increased to 30mg, I actually took 2 x 15mg tablets because at 30mg I didn't get the same sleepy feeling (and at the time I wasn't sleeping so was grateful that this helped me). I am now taking 45mg and I take it in the middle of the afternoon. It has no effect on me feeling sleepy and I function quite normally (well normal for me lol). I have not had any other side effects or feeling unwell when taking this medication at all. It's use as an antidepressant is okay but I have felt better on others which I can no longer take. 45mg is the maximum dose.

Thanks so much, I've taken antidepressants / anti anxiety tablets a few times for short periods but have never had Mirtazapine before - I'm really suffering with my sleep at the moment so my GP said it should hopefully provide me with some relief for that too touch wood it dos make me drowsy! I hope things are okay for you. Take care lovely. x

Fingers crossed they help with the sleep as well as your depression / anxiety. If they don't do much for your sleep you could always try promethazine. It can be found in over the counter sleep remedies as it is basically an antihistamine. If I am very awake when I should be asleep I take these and they don't seem to have any contradictions with the other medications I take. Take care xxx

promethazine-dm oral and mirtazapine oral both increase affecting serotonin levels in the blood. Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock. Monitor CloselyModify Therapy/Monitor Closely.rxlist.com › drug-interactions

Your response is hard to understand. You need to explain dm oral?? In the UK both medications are taken orally either as tablet or liquid form so what is your point.

I looked at the website (what is all this Monitor CloselyModify Therapy/Monitor Closely in front of it supposed to mean?) and when you correctly put the medications in which is 1) Promethazine Oral and 2) Mirtazapine Oral you get told "mirtazapine oral and promethazine oral both increase sedation and drowsiness" which actually is the desired affect and all done under the instruction of my GP

Secondly, Promethazine is an anti histamine - it has no effect on serotonin levels.

How does promethazine work?

Promethazine is a medicine called an antihistamine. It's classed as a drowsy (sedating) antihistamine.

When you come into contact with something you're allergic to, such as pollen or animal hair, your body produces a chemical called histamine. This can cause symptoms such as a runny nose or skin rashes.

Promethazine blocks the effects of histamine in your brain and this reduces symptoms.

It enters the brain in large quantities and this can make you feel drowsy.

Promethazine also blocks the effects of a chemical called dopamine, and this stops you feeling sick.

Before posting contradictions you should check you are talking about the correct medication.

Hello Missy. Both medication are in pills form and yes , oral. If you simply search those two medicine on google , " Mirtazapine interactions with Promethazine " you' ll see the results. Mirtazapine has also a part that is anti histamine inhibitor receptor . My self I have mixed an anti histamine inhibitor medicine with L- Tryptophan and after few hours my pulse goes up to 180.

You are missing an important factor in that Promethazine on it's own DOES NOT affect serotonin. Promethazine DM (DM being dextromethorphan) is a different medication and will have very different side affects because of the opioid components of dextromethorphan. I am talking about taking promethazine on it's own.

The other important factor is you should avoid Google at all costs because you end up spouting worst case scenarios which are not relevant to the original post.

Hi, I was switched from paroxetine to mirtazapine a couple of months ago, I noticed a huge improvement from the 1st night! I never used to sleep or eat due to severe anxiety. The first night I started the 15mg I slept through the night woke with energy for the first time in so long, I’m now on 45mg due to a really difficult couple of weeks. My gp increased my dose only a few days ago due to my anxiety being so bad, hoping to see even a tiny improvement soon but these worked for me and I think it’s just a certain family problem that’s got my anxiety so bad but at least now I have insight which before I wouldn’t know why I was so anxious. Hope this helps x

Hi there, I have generalised anxiety disorder and have been taking 15mg Mirtazapine for 6 weeks now. I had trouble eating and sleeping due to anxiety, and since startinb the mirtazapine it’s immediately made me sleep more. For the first few days I slept through the whole night and into the afternoon, I felt so sleepy the whole day. However I personally have noticed since starting that I have been feeling more down and have had increased suicidal thoughts. Has anyone else been experiencing this? Overall it has been helping me sleep, although now I am having trouble falling asleep at night again, and it hasn’t positively affected my anxiety/mood. I am considering coming off of it but I like that I can actually get some sleep.

I hope that is helpful! If anyone relates to me or has any questions or advice, please feel free to message me or leave a comment, thank you! xx

HelloI’ve been taking Mirtazapine 30mg/day for 10weeks now. It’s enabled me to sleep at night, but my partner has noticed that I’ve become easily frustrated during the day for some reason. Never behaved like this before so regularly, so not sure why this is. Also noticed being rather tearful at certain times in the day, again something I’ve never really experienced before. Other symptoms include upset stomach every day. Also a little shortness in breath when walking the dog. Apart from all that there’s been no side effects whatsoever! Looks like everyone has varied symptoms. I decided to ‘give it a go’ because previous antidepressants did nothing for me. However, I will be talking with my GP to reconsider pulling away from them as I don’t particularly feel any benefit from the Mirtazapine as yet and it’s been practically 3 months. Anyone else with more info to help with my decision making would be greatly appreciated. AT.

Hi everyone! I have started Mirtazapine in October 2020 from 7,5 increase to 30mg for over a month.

Side effects :

- sleepy

- increase heart rate

- balance problem

- stomach acid reflux

Before I started Mirtazapine I couldn't sleep and I had high blood pressure from anxiety.

I took 30 mg for 3 months and still have balance problem when I have my daily walk.

For about 3 weeks ago I started to tapper down 10% and now I am on 22.5 mg .

Side effects :

- balance problem

- a bit of anxiety - agoraphobia

- tinitus ear

- feel like influenza

As I have study this medicine, it's good idea to tapper down very careful and always check interactions with other medicine, vitamins and food.

Good luck to you all !

I've taken Mirtazipine twice as prescribed by the GP. In my experience not just is crap, making me feel like a goddam zombie, but also puts me to a sleepy state, WITHOUT actually letting me sleep. I moved all fxckin night in bed and couldn't fall asleep. Like a continuous psychological torture. I fxckin hate Mirtazipine. What helps me atm is Nitrazepam.
