Worried about addiction

Lately I have been so dependent on one of my medications that I keep asking my doctor to up the prescription, so I can feel the effects of this medication. however its highly addictive and often abused. my mom was a drug addict for as long as I can remember she was addicted to the same medication I'm taking... I feel fine I can even stop taking it for days on end but when I do take it I crave more so I can have the effect of it like it was the 1st time I ever took it. am I becoming an addict too? I'm so scared I don't want to turn out like my mother she ruined her life due to this and I have so much to live for and so much to lose. I don't know what to do or who to talk to about it so I came here. It's really the only place I feel comfortable talking about it.

doctors call this habit forming behaviour….usually benzos because it’s true the effects wear off after long term use and it does create drug dependence,are you ready to accept this and construct a plan with your doctor to start reducing them?……is it benzos?

Don’t take more than doctor prescribed. Talk to doctor about your concerns with addiction, especially if it runs in your family. It is my experience that over time your tolerance will increase, therefore needing more to get same effect. You are VERY smart for recognizing this. Good job! Also, keep your meds away from your mom. you should probably be mindful as others have said. Does your doctor know about your history? There are less addicting options.
