I've been on Sertraline 50mg for nearly 8 weeks now. About a week ago I started taking Propranolol twice a day because I still had crippling anxiety. Now I'm ok in the afternoon and evening, feeling almost normal, but I get woken up by cortisol "flushes" at about 5 or 6 am. I need another couple of hours sleep, which I manage to get, but then the anxiety feels much worse for many hours. Any idea why? Do you get up at 5 if cortisol dictates it?

Morning anxiety
I had issues with high cortisol especially in the evenings so I started taking phosphatidyl serine, ashwagandha, and magnesium glycinate before bed to lower it and melatonin to aid in sleeping. i also sometimes take valerian root tincture under my tongue if I've had a rough day.
It's typical for anxiety to be more present in the morning, I think some of this can be exacerbated by anticipatory anxiety thinking and when your body is already sensitized it sets off the anxiety/panic.
I found that meds helped but what really helped me was learning how to be comfortable with the anxious feelings and no longer fear them and know they will eventually pass. I found the DARE book and youtube vides helpful and also the book "At last a life and beyond" by Paul David
