lately my depression and anxiety has been bad. It’s affecting my relationships with everyone. Also can’t seem to sleep more than a couple hours at a time. This sucks.

Not happy - can’t sleep
Right now the world is crazy. People are rude, covid still lingers, now there is monkeypox too and some days it seems like everyone is shooting anyone they want to. Those of us who already suffer from anxiety and depression feel even worse. Try to avoid the news and come up with a relaxing bedtime routine. Also try to talk to the people close to you if you feel they will listen. So many of us are suffering right now. Please remember you're not alone. Post here when you need to. Someone will respond and may have suggestions that would work better for you.
Right there with you. Melatonin helps me fall asleep and I get about 5 hours. I’m still waiting for doc to put in script for mirtazapine that has been a lifesaver for me in past. It’s an antidepressant that also Tweaks appetite which I need, and helps with sleep. Also I was just searching for calm music and there’s free stuff on YouTube. I may try that tonight if I can locate some air buds.
Hi and thanks for your post.Knowing that something has changed in your mental health is a good thing.👍
Take a few moments to check in with yourself to ask yourself 3 things:
Q1. is there something / someone that has triggered this?
Q2. what has worked in the past to reduce my symptoms
Q3. who can I talk to about this?
Sleep is so important to good health. You might like to take a short course of prescribed medication or try something over the counter at your pharmacy.
Best wishes for a speedy return to good mental health🦘
Thank you. I do have triggers.
1. My family life isn’t so great currently. My parents are alcoholics. My mom wants to divorce my dad. Dads health is declining but refusing to get checked out or take care of himself . Another trigger is I feel like a good friend of my tries to make me jealous of her perfect relationship with her husband and life.. maybe she’s not, but I do feel that way.
2. I’m in therapy and have been working out. Staying busy, productive and distracted seem to help. It’s hard to have motivation to want to do these things when I’m feeling depressed.
3. Feel like I can only talk to my therapist in confidentiality. I have tried talking to friends about my problems and they don’t know how to help, then just suggest therapy. Almost feel like I’m bringing the negative person no one wants to be around.
I do take a mood stabilizer, but may need to rethink more depression and anxiety mixture of meds.
I wish I could take lorazepam like I have in the past, but my Dr doesn’t want to prescribe it since it’s a controlled substance.
A lot of good words have been said. I will suggest meditation and prayer and some private time with yourself. The issues in our life can come with extreme heat exacting us almost beyond the point of human endurance, but, we muchht never give in.
I know that a busy day that tasks the body and avoidance of siesta can really help with night sleep. I am glad you shared it here which display you as a person of courage, trust and understanding.
As for you good friend. Please do not see her like that, your assumptions t may not be the case but should it be, what use is that to you dear. A silent answer is better than a war at times😊
Hi PFFL.
What is ur relationship with urself ? That's the relationship that needs & requires the most work & so should take president.
Sleeping , I've not slept properly for years & it's still going on even with sleeping tablets. I'm hoping my shrink can up my sleeping tablets but I'm only getting 5 hours which is how long I slept 20 years ago . Now I can end up near 50 hours without sleep & then when I do sleep I get max 5 hours & I'm still tired.
Medication speak to ur GP & or shrink as it can cause you a lot of ills as it did me .
Good Luck with ur journey & remember U need to help U before all else & YES it's OK to be selfish when it comes to Ur own mental health. If U don't love U then why would or should anyone else
I just answered a similar question: You might check to make sure your hormones, thyroid and adrenals are functioning properly, if not, they can cause or contribute to anxiety. Also too much sugar and caffeine can cause anxiety/sleep issues. If your cortisol level is elevated in the evening it can cause sleep issues, I take phosphatidyl serine, melatonin, ashwagandha and magnesium glycinate before bed to help lower cortisol and stress. I've also found valerian root tincture to be helpful for sleeping.
