I need advice

so those of you who also struggle with severe health anxiety. I’ve noticed sometimes when I feel a pain or sensation or tight feeling my body instantly goes into fight or flight it’s very annoying. How have you guys worked through it? Granted I’m somewhat feeling okay I’m remembering to try and focus on the times I feel somewhat calm. But like I’ll be sitting there or laying there and bam feel a tension in my arms chest whatever a weird feeling and my brain instantly fight or flight I’ll even jump up sometimes scaring the shit out of my girlfriend. I wish I could figure out a way to not make that happen. I’m starting to figure out that sometimes I’ll be starting to feel the anxiety coming on and start worrying for example about the weird heavy feeling in my arms then bam it just starts spiraling no matter if I do deep breathing change my setting then it will mostly end with a fast fight or flight and I’ll even calm down after that sometimes. Also most rational thoughts go flying out my head when this happens then of course the omg I’m dying thought stays with me

I’ve learned that the more you are able to sit with the feeling, the chemicals in your brain that cause the panic and need to flea, actually settle down. Therefore you kind of have to reprogram your brain. It’s not easy at first, and I’m not going to lie and say I’ve mastered it, but I try to remind myself that I’m not going to die from the sensation. Usually doing something like a game or puzzle, any means of distraction, helps. Peace Adam.

Thank you! I think I may try some things tomorrow. I’m really trying to encourage myself that I can actually do things when I feel so weird.

Hi Adam

I think we all know this feeling. It's very draining for sure.

Would be great if we could wish it away.

I also go inside my body. I've learned deep meditation skills. This takes a long time to master. But you have to keep trying. Eventually you can clear the brain.

I was taught through a special therapy that I should feel the feeling and talk to it. Sounds weird but it works. Why are you showing up now? Everything is safe and I am ok. You need to rest now. Things like that.

It's a therapy called IFS

It's where I do my hardest inner child work. There are you tube videos on this if you are interested in looking at them

I’ll have to talk to my therapist about that therapy and thank you!

In another post you mentioned not drinking water regularly because you are indoors and my impression is you sit and sleep a lot. That plus dehydration which you may not notice, lowers electrolytes which causes muscles to spasm. Plus your brain doesn’t have much to do so it ruminates while you wait for an appointment. Drink more water.

I think you may of mis understood me I do drink a lot of water. I was saying Im inside all day so I don’t get how it can be only dehydration

Sorry I did. You can become dehydrated indoors. IDK where you live but the heat causes water to rise and makes you sweat more which can cause water loss. I live in a dry area....believe me you do not always notice it.

There is a book called Jailbreak... it is an easy breakdown of IFS.

Check out some you tube videos. It's something that takes some time to learn but doing this was a big turning point in my recovery.
