What a lovely idea. However, we all know there are scams out there. I appreciate anyone who wants to support our service members. Being a vet myself I love that our community & our culture is finally seeing the value in our military. Here’s some information from the Walter Reed page•••••••••••••••••••••••

Mail to Wounded and Recovering Soldiers

Walter Reed Army Medical Center officials want to remind those individuals who want to show their appreciation through mail to include packages and letters, addressed to “Any Wounded Soldier” that Walter Reed will not be accepting these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.

In addition, the U.S. Postal Service is no longer accepting “Any Service Member” or “Any Wounded Service Member” letters or packages. Mail to “Any Service Member” that is deposited into a collection box will not be delivered.

Instead of sending an “Any Wounded Soldier” letter or package to Walter Reed, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the “America Supports You” website, americasupportsyou.mil

Well Brig, that makes 2 of us today that learned something.I learned as well as got so much back from our veterans at

Hines Veteran's Hospital/Paraplegic Ward. I volunteered for

several years when I was in the midst of struggling with Anxiety.

I was their eyes, their hands and their friend. I went to help them

but they helped me see the joy in life as they were so grateful to be

alive. It was a true life experience that I'll never forget. :) xx

You know Brig, it's so funny that many times I wanted to write tosome of the men there or send cards because I did see those who never

had visitors and it hurt me.

Little did I know that they don't accept packages or mail anymore.

I think at one time they must have.

From what I read 9/11 changed allot of things. These folks do great work and we need more support for those who serve.

To all those who protect us thank you!

I totally agree that those who serve and protect in any capacity deserve our utmost gratitude. It's not an easy job when everyone is running away

and you are going into the dire situation. :) xx

Good Morrow Sir.

Everyday people for the most part are appreciative of their country's armed forces. However the saddest part is the help from the very people who instruct them to go into battle on their behalf & the government seems to want to forget these brave men & women who have been to the virtual gates of hell .

Upon their return , many with mental health that isn't even looked at as much as they need. Housing for those that come home but can't go home as they know something is wrong & those that do go home but in the end haven't had the help with the nightmares from the things they see & suffer from in each one's mind. It's like those in the USA who are in the police force , they who are more likely to die by a self inflicted gun shot wound than others that don't go to war as they see destruction & stats say 21% more suicides are by cops than any other work force in the USA. They too need the help.

It's great giving them 1 day holiday but the government's of the world need to do more as its them that send kids on their behalf.

World needs to change & those in charge need to change most with the lies & BS they feed their people.

i support the veterans who coped with the horrors ....i do not support the DOD clueless who mismanage the wars and andndna....i dont support various regions (the south and texas v supportive of veterans) of this country who i have had to repress my support of veterans as they are sooooo left of center and blame the veterans. I dooooo totally agree....our veterans come home to blame rgretction no support from family and all knds of judtgment and rejedtion.......i totally agree!!!!! Our veterans deserve better!!!!!!! in some regions they are accepted but in many......they survive under the radar and biases and ignorance of amercan people.....

i went through the same when i came home to the ultra liberal pacifi northwest.........big mistake.....im now in a region that is more conservative.....

Veterans and service members are no longer allowed “to any service member” packages or letters for security purposes. If you are acquainted with a service member deployed or veteran in hospital you can send a package directly to them by name, and ask to share with others. Like a box full of cards, or a care package. Just has to be addressed appropriately to an individual service member, using appropriate military address or hospital.

You have a good heart. My eldest is military special ops. Unfortunately there are a lot of miscreants, both foreign and domestic, who wish to do harm to our troops. I too support military and veteran charities, as well as send care packages when deployed (to him) to share with his team.

Also, I am not from a military family, so operational security was a huge learning curve for me. Akin to “loose lips sink ships.”

I am the child and grandchild of service personnel from both World Wars. My father and Uncle were both in WW2, (Dad in the RAF and my uncle was A Royal Marine Commando and took part in the Landings on D-Day.)

My Grandad, who died 9 years before I was born was in WW1, on the Somme and was injured, and invalided out. in 1917. He died just before the outbreak of WW2.

My Grandma, aunt and Mum, all helped to build Wellington Bombers, and my mother later worked for Barnes Wallis when he was designing the big bombs for the Ruhr Dams, the Tirpitz, etc.

Some time ago I worked as a nurse at the Royal hospital for Injured Ex- service people in Richmond, Surrey. Rather like your Ward 57.

Cheers, Midori
